LoneBarren
I have played a few hours of DST with some friends over the last few days and have experienced some things that are really annoying. I think the difficulty is good, about the same as normal don't starve, however you end up with a lot less stuff to do because tasks get divided. I am not going to say that previous content needs to be added as it inevitably will be. Changing Characters:You technically can change characters if you assemble the Teleportato (but this requires destroying the world), in single player, but in multiplayer you can often get 20 days in and realise u don't like your character, in single player this is fine because you can just start over but I doubt your friends will want to. I think that the player should be able to change character in the Portal, but only once. Shared Maps:The ability to share your map would be great, especially when working with allies. I understand the point of it not being on for PvP reasons however this is very annoying when playing with allies. The ability to toggle map sharing would make DST much more fun, as well as easier to assist friends who have joined late. Random Events:I think that more events like hounds and giants would be better, as it can cause you to need be much more on edge and create more stuff for you to do, it would create more tension and excitement. Difficulty:I think that the game needs to exponentially get more difficult the longer you have survived, Because if at day 80 you all have tentacle spikes, log suits, football helmets, and a renewable and sustainable food supply, then the game loses a lot of its excitement. BeastNips
You could say this of most RPG/Survival type games, it's just the first important decision you have to make and live with. It's also a bit imbalanced as some character have starting advantages and some have long term advantages. For example, I might pick Wickers to start as she can build most things straight away and what not, then I might decide to change to Wilson (for the beard) once I've used up most of Wickers' advantages. Or I might choose a character with no eating penalty first off to get my food production up and running, then I might change to Wigfrid (if I'm using mods); I would never really see her disadvantage as my food production would already be set up. This would let me use both characters' advantages, and sometimes negate other characters' disadvantages. The ability to share your map would be great, especially when working with allies. I understand the point of it not being on for PvP reasons however this is very annoying when playing with allies. The ability to toggle map sharing would make DST much more fun, as well as easier to assist friends who have joined late. I don't think sharing a map should be an option, I think this is more about everyone learning map reading skills and compass directions, and generally how to give/follow directions. However I have suggested ideas like a flare gun or a smoke blanket. This could ping all players' maps in order to show a location temporarily. It would cost resources to use and would be considered at least intermediate tech (science machine). Writeable signs would be nice too. Random Events:I think that more events like hounds and giants would be better, as it can cause you to need be much more on edge and create more stuff for you to do, it would create more tension and excitement. I think you got this spot on in your introduction: I am not going to say that previous content needs to be added as it inevitably will be. I think we are just waiting for more content. At one point this is what DS looked like in vanilla before caves and stuff; everyone had had fun learning to survive but we were bored once we did. DST has gotten to this stage very quickly (with a few issues to iron out), so we can expect lots of new content, new challenges and new ways to ragequit I think! I think that the game needs to exponentially get more difficult the longer you have survived, Because if at day 80 you all have tentacle spikes, log suits, football helmets, and a renewable and sustainable food supply, then the game loses a lot of its excitement. This is partly balance, and partly what you discussed in relation to random events. Balance: It's a tricky job getting the balance right for multiplayer in terms of hounds, chance of treekeeper spawn and other things that get progressively harder. I've found the same as you, at about day 80-100 the hound waves don't seem to get any tougher. I think this balance will be tweaked in time. Content: As new content (and old vanilla/RoG stuff) is introduced, I think things will get harder. I'm dreading RoG summers in multiplayer! LoneBarren
Yeah RoG Summer will be a true kick in the balls, but it will be easier to micro manage the smoldering stuff Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/47730-what-i-have-experienced-needs-to-change-in-dst/#findComment-593660 Share on other sites

I think that the player should be able to change character in the Portal, but only once. I like this idea, but it should wipe their character so it's balanced. If you could just change your character and keep everything, that'd be quite OP. Shared Maps: The ability to share your map would be great, especially when working with allies. I understand the point of it not being on for PvP reasons however this is very annoying when playing with allies. The ability to toggle map sharing would make DST much more fun, as well as easier to assist friends who have joined late. I agree, I've played DST and having players who have found the pig king when I'm still looking for him is annoying. A shared map would be great. Random Events: I think that more events like hounds and giants would be better, as it can cause you to need be much more on edge and create more stuff for you to do, it would create more tension and excitement. Hounds spawn for all players and I think that the giant will attack one player at random. Difficulty: I think that the game needs to exponentially get more difficult the longer you have survived, Because if at day 80 you all have tentacle spikes, log suits, football helmets, and a renewable and sustainable food supply, then the game loses a lot of its excitement. Endless isn't supposed to be difficult. Survival and Wilderness are supposed to be difficult because Endless is usually used as a way to teach new players how-to-play DST. You'll be able to change your character whenever you want, but with the risk of no knowing where your base is unless you explored most of your map the first time and memorized a lot of it. You'll also have no ghosts around. But telltale heart will have no point. Shared Maps - Most of us want that. This however should be something that happens within non-PvP games and people should Right click on another player to share maps with them, so that every corner both players had explored would be put together and both would have the same maps until they explore more. Random Events - Emm, no. Giants come quite often, even on Default and preparing for them is quite the drag. And hounds come around on about day 10 and then after every 15 days. That's quite often, considering that everyone will be doing something for multiple days and one day only lasts 8 minutes! Difficulty - It gets more difficult already. For newbies the game would be very hard or even impossible. For professionals, the buffed health of certain enemies or something makes it all more difficult. Wait till RoG comes out for DST and Caves. May be even adventure mode, then talk about Difficulty. It's all in open Beta so all features already in DS SP are still to be added for DST! Wilderness (if you can rez using normal resurrection items) would be easy. Don't Starve Together needs some more challenge and more to keep you on your toes, because the just maintaining a base is good on singleplayer but with 4 people, u very quickly have a full stock and nothing to do. You're guessing Wilderness is easy. Wilderness spawns you randomly on the map, and when you die, your character file resets and you respawn randomly again. This can be good for PvP but in general survival it can be a hassle. And Survival isn't easy if you make it easy. You said it yourself you just gathered reeds and then said it became easy (which only makes sense if a player is Wickerbottom but other than that it's not that easy). Mysanthil
If you think all the modes are too easy, try to join a 300+ day public dedicated server. If that's still easy, do it in the start of winter. It's possible to survive and thrive in both cases. And yes, the only reason this situation is difficult is due to lack of resources. I do agree DST is easy right now, but keep in mind the game needs to be balanced for all scenarios - close friends with lots of experience who only play on private servers will probably (and should probably) find DST easy. Random strangers of random experience on public dedicated servers joining at random days will have a much harder time. Ummagumma
Joining a dedicated wilderness server at 300+ days is a freaking wasteland. No trees no flint no food just skeletons. BUT if you are able to survive (which is VERY hard) you get a great sense of accomplishment out of it.
