Session gameplay fix

Recommended Posts

A big problem while playing is impossibility to save a progress - the world's state.  Also it's impossible to leave server for a time and return back (eat, sleep, and many more).

Therefore it would be good to have possibility of server's host to save it's state (and possibilty to shut down server) and restore later. Saving must be  proceeded only at server's side. Progress of other logged in players also should be saved by server. On restoring session on sever (on reconnect) - must be restored inventory, health and placement on map.

Inventory state and main player's parameters also should be saved periodically till gameplay- i a case of connection lost.

Disconnection from server also must provide same functionality - to restore on reconnect later, not simple dying.

On a server's side there should be a possibility to save/load/restore saved world sessions.  Also on restoring session it would be good if invites to join were sent to previously logged players.

Also client should have possibility of auto-remembering last N played servers.

Without this feature all progress will be useless - because all will be lost on server's down.

I don't know about everyone else, but your suggestion(s) is/are confusing to me. From what I understand, you want servers to be able to save states?

"On a server's side there should be a possibility to save/load/restore saved world sessions..."
We have roll back features in DST. Instructions below:

  • Select the server in the Host Server Page.
  • Click Manage Server
  • There should be snapshots on the right column.
  • And select which snapshot you want to roll the server back to.
  • And double click that snapshot.

Notes:

  • Rolling back to old snapshots will erase any snapshots that was taken after that. It'll make more sense if you try it out.
  • Interval means how often the server will save the snapshots.

Do note, that if you are hosting the server and you close it the game saves all information about that server in your Host Server list. And if you want to resume the server, it'll start right where you left off.

"...Also client should have possibility of auto-remembering last N played servers..."

If you are suggesting a History List of servers that a player has previously joined, I believe the devs already have taken notice of such suggestion since it's a recurring suggestion. But I have yet to see any confirmation of it.

if I somehow misunderstood your post, I'm sorry. Please clarify what you mean when you say "...leave a server."? are you hosting the server? Or are you leaving a dedicated server? Or are you leaving a server hosted by another player?

Hosts are already able to save game progress - previous worlds appear to the right side of the screen, in one of five save slots, after they click "Host Server". If the host is not seeing that, and is certain he/she did not delete the previous world, it sounds like a bug.

Also, @splitfrog, if you as a client are dying instead of simply having your account logged out/disconnected, that's also a bug. Unless maybe this is a feature of Wilderness Mode I haven't experienced yet; I don't play that often enough, can anyone who has comment? If you as a client disconnect from the host, and rejoin later, does it remember where you were when you logged off? Or are you forced to start over at the character-selection screen as if you had died?
