Cryostasys
Bug Submission: Category: Gameplay Issue Title: Rubber-banding Issue Description: Self explanatory. Was playing with my GF as a LAN on our network, since I got the 2 pack for both of us. Ping of 17ms, but I (the client) got really bad rubber-banding if I got too far away from her. Steps to Reproduce: Explained in issue description. Bad rubber-banding if the characters are too far separated from each other. rezecib
@Cryostasys, Most of the lag is not due to network latency, but rather due to the server computer not running the game smoothly. This should improve if whoever has the better computer between the two of you hosts. RustyNayle
Oh yeah, I have a huge issue with this one, too! With ping as high as 60 sometimes, I can understand a bit of lag. However, when I'm getting bounced back and forward halfway across the whole screen, it's unplayable! No chance to walk in between spider nests when it catapults me right into one, and then night hits suddenly or something like that. The spider isn't even on the screen any more, and somehow manages to bite me. I right click on my torch and it takes more than 5s to equip! Is the host PC keeping track of everything on the map at once, and the guests' PCs only tracking what is happening within it's player's area of influence (i.e. their line of sight)? The PCs shouldn't need to communicate so that both know what is happening all over the map at the same time, do they? I don't understand why such a low resource game should get laggy when so many FPS games with uber graphics are no problem for me? rezecib
@RustyNayle, Graphics are all local. An FPS game actually involves significantly less network information. It doesn't communicate about the whole map-- it uses two systems: "awake" vs "asleep" -- this was in single-player, too. Entities near a player (a couple of screen away) are "awake", and are updated regularly. "asleep" entities stop getting updated regularly until they become "awake", at which time they get a "longupdate" to cover the time they were asleep. The game only communicates "awake" entities that are near a player to that particular player. RustyNayle
Fair enough, thanks for that info. Hey, I thought I had already optimised all the settings of the game, but just in case I decided to look into it again. Netbook mode (whatever that is) wasn't on, so I turned it on. Also, I didn't even notice that full screen wasn't on (I just thought for some reason windowed was a part of a recent update, since DS decided to change to default settings by itself as well recently), and that enabled me to change the resolution. All the other stuff was disabled, so that's all I could do. It was enough though, I've been playign with two other guys, and 3 weeks no issues at all (bar ones caused by the host's PC alone). Very glad I was able to figure this one out. With 461 hours in DS / RoG, and 69 hours as a 2nd round beta tester for DST, I really love this game and am glad it's working again! Hopefully this means I might even be able to host some too, without causing too much lag to my guests? Redpine
I only got bad rubber banding 5 times... 4 times in boring walks, 1 time surrounded by spider queens.... Could be coincidence, but is it possible spider queens and other complicated entities can contribute to rubber banding? Odinfrom
To be honest I've often rubberbanding, it's rather annoying and it's not rare to die because of that... :/ But I don't understand why it's due to the computer, because most of people have crazy comp( i5,i7 and other stuffs), how can the game be laggy with that ? =/ Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/46978-gameplay-rubber-banding/#findComment-591236 Share on other sites
