Desperately Seeking Wes

Hey all, I'm a noob to the forums so don't be shy about pointing me to the right place if this is an improper posting, but I'm having trouble finding a straight answer in terms of unlocking Wes.

Can anyone tell me for sure how to go about it?

Some people say you have to be on World 3 in save slot 1 for Wes to spawn in any saved game at all. But that sounds superstitious to me; if that were a real bug early on surely it would have been addressed by now?

The Wiki says Wes spawns on World 3 (as long as it is not Two Worlds, some say, other say as long as it's not Two Worlds or Archipelago). But I read on the forums that he can spawn in any of the first four worlds (but never, apparently, in Darkness).

I'm happy to put in the work to make it happen, but I don't want to waste my time if I'm not doing it right (if save slot 1 really is important, I don't want to make the attempt with slot 2, for example. Or if he can spawn in any world I will make sure to cover all the ground and not just hop worlds once the teleportato is assembled.)

I was ever so chuffed when I unlocked Maxwell; now Wes is the final frontier. Can someone help?

Sorry, I should have mentioned that currently I'm making the attempt on the console version, in case that is important. I'd like to make the attempt on the PC version eventually, but probably not soon.

I don't believe the save slot matters- however, my steam version is on slot one and I just found him.  My console version was not slot one when I found him.  but I don't think the console version means that's necessarily true for the steam version.  I've only ever found him in World 3, as long as it's not Two Words.  for some reason, he's always spawned almost immediately after I beat adventure mode for a second time.  This is just my experience, and it's worked for me twice now.

Explore edges of map there is a certain spot for him.

 

It can be in any worlds. I am not sure about Darkness because is a small and easy world and Two Worlds is also easy and small. I found it in Archipelago when I unlocked for me and in Cold Reception for a friend.

 

But if you want to cheat use this: GetWorld().minimap.MiniMap:ShowArea(0,0,0,10000) . Well if you want to be fair with you use it when you have already explored all map to be sure is not there.

 

To close console press ctrl+L, make sure nobody saw that!

Oh well didn't saw he plays on console, I usually read between lines, I am a very lazy person and now I feel ashamed!

Cheating won't work on the PS4, of course, but I still appreciate the tips because I'll want to unlock him on the Steam version but will have less patience for doing it the hard way!

 

Well, we found and freed Wes this weekend, woohoo!

 

And, as it turned out, I was using save slot 1, and we found him in World 3. Take that for what it's worth. I'm not convinced that these parameters actually matter, but I have no disconfirming evidence to offer!

 

In case anyone is curious, it was:

 

World 1: A Cold Reception

World 2: King of Winter

World 3: The Game is Afoot (Wes found)

World 4: Archipelago 

World 5: Darkness

 

Finding Wes with WX-78 was like buttah; I was able to carry a full stack of 40 gears into the next several worlds!

I am ridiculously jealous that it only took you one weekend to unlock Wes! I had been trying to find information on the forums about doing it for ages (for some reason I thought I would get locked into the rooms with the Maxwell Statues and wouldn't be able to leave so I kept trying to make a million honey poultices and take in a bunch of helmets and armor and tentacle spikes with me- I would always die before I got my supplies ready. When I finally tried to unlock Wes I learned you can move around the map completely normal- d'oh!) I probably played through adventure mode about 50 times trying to unlock Wes- I got Two Worlds as my world 3 a BUNCH of times- trust me, he is NEVER on that map. And I never found him on any of the other worlds except for world 3.

LadyWerebeaver, don't be jealous! We unlocked him this weekend, but we started a while ago! I think it probably took us about a week of playing a lot last weekend, and then an hour or two every evening during the work week. But yes, I think we got lucky in that our first serious effort bore fruit, considering that others say his appearance is very rare indeed (maybe he's more common on the PS4?).

 

I definitely recommend making the effort using WX-78, and it probably doesn't hurt to be superstitious and use save slot 1. However, folks seem to think he can appear in any world, so make sure you cover enough of the map in every world to be sure it isn't there (the footprint of the structure is very large, so you don't have to cover every little inch).

 

I haven't had a chance to play as him much. The fact that he doesn't talk is more of an issue than I expected. I got bit by Charlie because Wes was *just* past the line of visibility but he didn't say anything about it...
