Learn how to do somethings using mods:

Read the pinned topics and any interesting tutorials linked.

Download any similiar mods you may find, so you can study their functionality.

Structure your mod and work:

Write down a roadmap of sorts, a list of properties and goals usually is enough.

I personally prefer to get one part of my mods working before bothering with another.

Get some Gadgets:

There is various mod-developement-supporting mods, so get some if you need to know or control something in the game.

Use the debug console (~ per default, but it could be other keys like ö)

Go to the forums:

If the "Learn how"s don't answer a question, ask it in the mod forums. Ideally with the affected files or a log.txt
