Spending Credits to improve Hacking perk?

Pretty sure this allows the character to interact further with terminals, meaning the multiple choice selections such as the meme/emails that replenish movement, ammo stash for free ammo, or the bank info for credits.

 

There is also the option for being caught by security in which you can hack or log out. Not sure if the security checks happen regardless because I almost always upgrade hacking early on. It becomes extremely handy late game when you NEED to hack that cam/laser/safe, etc.

Is this worth it? The extra hacking item what exactly does that improve on? I've spent credits once on this perk but because of my newbness I didn't notice anything new.

I'm missing something important here aren't I?

 

The main concrete reason I invest in hacking is the EMP device.  An added bonus is portable servers, and if you use consoles and don't mind walking up to them, the +x power from consoles item could be okay.

 

I am not sure because I don't use consoles much, but on my endless run, Internationale almost never fails the hack on a console when I have the option, she also seems to get more "meme/bank/ammunition" choices.

 

That being said, I think in story mode the only time I invested enough in hacking to get EMP III was during a run I never used a weapon on.  I feel that there are better options during story mode, though EMP can be very useful in a room full of drones, especially if you give your hacker a cloaking rig :grin:

 

For clarification, I tend to stockpile money and then upgrade the skill after I have an item that uses said skill, the only exceptions would be anarchy for stealing cards and stealth if I have an abundance of funds.

I have *that* kind of luck. meaning if I try for Buster, I'll get EMP or vice versa. Whatever skill I upgrade short of stealth, it typically seems it should have been the other one :p

I realized that was happening, which is why I stopped upgrading before I had the items, pre-patch I was usually sitting pretty on the beginning of day3 with ~4k after having bought the things I feel are necessary (I don't tend to purchase much besides my big 3 [armor piercing, medgels, and incognita programs], it depends on the run). Day 3+4 are my upgrade days usually, after I already have the items.

 

I've had too many runs where I've gotten maxed skills without the item and then can't use this other awesome gadget I found, so I just stopped doing it that way, it's worked out pretty well, and made for more flexible gameplay.
