ok i usually figure things out on my own but I'm stuck with the tall bird being so fast it can follow me for ever, and I don't want to spend my days gathering ingredients for sleeping darts, so beside the sleeping darts how do you get away from a tall bird after stealing their eggs.

There's also that. I used a miner hat a couple times to get it while the tall bird was asleep.

Stealing their eggs is much simpler at dawn/night when the tallbirds sleep, so they don't attack you. If you have a tallbird which doesn't stop chasing you you have to run through a swamp, so it gets killes by tentacles or you have to try to stuck him between trees or at the edge of a bridge. The simplest way is to equip the log suit/football helmet and spear to kill the tallbird.
