Jar- Food Preservation Idea

Recommended Posts

A jar in Don't Starve would be a space in your inventory in which you could stack up any single type of food 10x. For example, if you have an empty jar, and 10x roasted seeds, you could drag them onto the jar. In the jar, spoiling would be slowed by 1/3 of the rate. Just a simple idea.

@Tamazacat I wouldn't say that it's OP, as there is a limited space, and the Jar would most likely have a durability of it's own. The jar is a essentially a more common version of snow chester, and unlike an ice box, is fit for a nomadic play style.

I've thought about Jar(s) as well.  Except, I think that non-empty jars shouldn't stack, even if they're jars of the same item.  Jars should vanish on use and replace the inventory spot with whatever was in the jar.  I think jars should never spoil (unlike real life) but unlike real life, jars wouldn't be re-usable since they vanish on use. I think that only empty jars should be stackable, and thus non-empty jars, even of the same type, can't be stacked.

Players should maybe have a cannery type machine to jar most things.

A jar could hold 1 meal or 3 small items of the same type per jar (barries, jams, carrots)

I think players/characters shouldn't be able to jar anything that hasn't been processed (that's to say, cooked or dried out), except maybe flowers, & bugs.

Each jar could hold one meal, so a player could take a meaty stew with them that will take a long time to spoil, but they can't stack it.

Also, players could be required to have a jar to hold bees or fireflies.

I also think, If jars are in a box, and the box is broken (not burnt) the jars should break too.
