Beefalo move away?

I recently started a new map with the intent to survive for an incredibly stupid amount of time and thus I found a beefalo area very fast and declared it my spot. I built my stone fire pit right in the middle of it and eventually started noticing beefalo being more and more scarce and now I can only find them elsewhere. What made them move away or what CAN make them move away?

They just seem to wander randomly which is a pain.

Yeah I'm finding one or two max in the surrounding forests and it's very hard to get fertilizer now. Hmmmphhhh :/

if you can get a hound to attack one all the others will come back.

They will probably come back eventually, if they dont you could consider a secundaire firepit at their new location.
