Some questions on summer

Recommended Posts

I always start my games in autumn and have finally reached my first summer.

1) what is the range of the ice flingomatic? Mine is about 1 1/3 screen from my chests and about 2 screens from my furthest farm. Should I worry

2) I'm using the endothermic fire at night. Does this reduce my temperature for when I go out during the day

3) when using a thermal stone I suddenly get maximum freezing with no warning. I dump the stone in chester and wait to warm up. Is this a bug? Should I take off my straw hat to warm up quicker?

4). Is everyone else more scared of summer than of winter? Like me.

In winter I can easily move around and do work. If I get cold a simple fire is easy to build. And I have built a few fire pits around the place. In summer the counter fire is much more material intensive, but more importantly I am always worried about how much of my camp will still be standing.

Luckily, so far, nothing has burned down, though I have smeared poop in a chest and a bee box.

My entire base got burned down in my first summer. I barely survived by going through the wormhole near my base until summer was over. Icebox and all the jerky survived though so i had plenty of food.

1: You should worry, because my ice-flingomatics only reach a large circle around them.

2: No, but it keeps you cool during the night

3: This never happens to me.

4: I am.

1) I think the range is a little over 1/2 a screen.  If I have one in the center of the screen, it can reach about everything on the screen.  The best way to test this is plant grass and saplings until until it stops hitting them.  They you've found the range.

2) don't know

3) pretty sure it's a bug.

4) I have a satellite base for summer, so it's definitely the only one that forces me to radically alter my play style.  Not really afraid of summer per se, but the Dragonfly is the toughest giant.  At least  until you've killed him once.

The instant-freeze thermal stone isn't a bug, it is just a poorly made feature. The thermal stone at it's coldest state will instantly drop your temperature to freeze damage levels. You should not equip it until it is at it's second coldest level, and even then you can still freeze if it isn't that hot and you are using other methods simultaneously to drop heat.
