GentlemanScientist
I haven't played much of Don't Starve yet, but I've found it to be both fun and frustrating. I enjoy the permadeath challenge, but setting up a new base camp after each death can get a bit tedious. What about adding an option to grant yourself a starter chest to speed up the early game, similar to the optional bonus chest in Minecraft. The world would generate with one chest near your spawn point, filled with a random assortment of basic materials like flint, grass, logs, and stone. The default would be for this chest not to spawn, but players that want a slightly easier/faster start could choose this option in the world presets. HoneyHam
Here's a tip: On day 1, go on a collecting spree. Pick every plant you see in sight. And then start mining rocks and chopping trees on day 2. Once you have a stack of everything or more, start exploring the map and trying to find a good location to build a base. And then you're on your own from there!(Also, there's a few good kiting guides around here if you have trouble with that:) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/30630-optional-starter-chest/#findComment-395493 Share on other sites
jbeetle
game+ has that option, doesn't it? Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/30630-optional-starter-chest/#findComment-395494 Share on other sites
HoneyHam
It does sound reasonable, but nothing crazy.Maybe 5 flint, 2 cooked green caps, 6 petals, and maybe a random item (Not something OP like a thulecite club, maybe a random material with a random amount, or a flint tool.) Yeah, it wouldn't have any late game higher tier items. Just a a handful of random starter supplies. It would mostly be perhaps 5-12 each of things like logs, sticks, and stones. You might also get a random tool or two, a torch, and other basic stuff like that. When making a world, you can select the button "World." This takes you to a bunch of settings, as well as a preset option. Default+ is basically hard difficulty. Less food, more bad things, but more set pieces (Naturally spawning structures) and a starter chest. 2. And maybe a few berries and morsels Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/30630-optional-starter-chest/#findComment-395520 Share on other sites
Maz
This will make MORE people think Don't Starve is the same as Minecraft... Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/30630-optional-starter-chest/#findComment-395809 Share on other sites
