TheFireStarter
Seeing as Don't Starve is already difficult I'd love to see an advanced challenge mode of sorts. These are some basic ideas I have come up with. Keep in mind these are suggestions so no need to start a huge argument that is going to spiral into a huge mess and end up completely off topic. IdeasStart out with a basic setup items (in a chest) walls, a fridge, traps, food, tools. This start should allow balance in the increased difficulty.Instantly the player is met with the challenge of advanced mobs and harder to catch food. For instance rabbits avoid traps depending on what food a certain group eats. This leads into the following idea.Colonies mobs that are edible (excluding hostile mobs) such as beeffalo and rabbits. For instance rabbits will live in a group of 4 and each group eats a different type of food and it will cause much experimentation to find out what each group of animal eats in order to bait a trap properlyMobs get increasingly harder and smarter. Such as dogs will now develop different traits have more health and attack harder. Leading into the next suggestion.Traits. Certain dogs will develop different traits depending on how you last defended yourself. So say if your last big battle with dogs you had less defense but you had better weapons so you were relying on dogs having low health so you could kill them fast. Next time dogs will have higher health and lower attack. Leading into the next suggestion.Sub divisions. In most games there is a class system. Tanks normally have lower attack but higher health and defense. A fast class that is weak in both attack and health but is fast to make up for it. Healers ??? Warriors that normally are equal. Something along the lines of this. The 3 preceding suggestions lead to this one. Sieges a wave of mobs for instance 15 attack you. Each of a different class (the argument above) but each has a different priority some will focus on your walls (medium) some will focus on going for you and breaking traps (heavies) and some will hang back (fast) and wait for your defenses to destroyed and then come in for the kill.Food spoils faster and and isn't as filling yet heals more. Recipes require more specific items to craft. A "Hardcore achievements" tab on the starting screen for instance "Survivor" Then a description is given if hovered over "Survived ten days in Hardcore mode" or "Meet the heavy" (tf2 reference anyone?) "Find and defeat your first heavy class enemy" and then not just things you get as time progress also things you have to go out of your way to do like "Wasteful" "Chop down 200 trees in a row without picking up the pinecones"Those are my suggestions Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/30483-hardcore-mode/ Share on other sites
