Clockwork Helper Problem

I was exited about the clockwork helpers because I was always scared out of my wits because of the nightmare/depth dweller/ancient guardian because I never bring armor to the ruins...

 

BUT....when I got 5 gears (took forever) I made a damaged clockwork bishop

and it attacked me... shouldn't it help me

Well I've noticed that when you repair them they are considered "worked"(i.e. they drop the same things you'd get if you had smashed it with a hammer), so perhaps the chance to spawn a hostile one still applies when repairing, and the hostile one has priority.

i just hate the glitch with them attacking chester. that and the fact they can't attack the horrors makes them pretty useless in my opinion.  by the time they get to a clockwork i have usually killed it and if they are a bishop normally it seems like their blasts hit me instead of the enemy.

just go to camp, put the eye bone in chester and he stays at your base..

Thanks for the input that makes them more useful. didn't know about the ctrl click thing.  and i do usually keep chester at base but it is just sad because he is 9 inventory slots that would really help in the ruins, and a hit bag for mobs sometimes.
