Pops nods, using a particularly sharpened tooth to knock his thumb, sending a droplet of blood at the mass of shades below. It makes it's way to the head of a shade, and it sizzles through like a hot knife through butter. After a few mutilated screams, the shade drops dead. Pops then proceeds to shake blood down, forming a light rain of death.

A beam of white light shoots out from the beacon, the beacon they had to die for, crossing with the second ray.  At the point where they join blasts out a storm of electric-blue light, which drives itself into the Shadow Seal.  With a terrible sound, the gates collapse into a thousand shards, opening the way to Shadowfall, and their final confrontation.

Azcar and Aerolon manage to get to the group.  "You must get to Shadowfall!"  Aerolon says.  "We will keep the shades off you while you fight him."

"And I shall come with you."  Azcar says.

The group is barely a couple meters from the rubble of the gateway before an enormous, serpentine shade bursts out of the ground.  Its tongue wraps around Azcar's ankles, tripping him.  He manages to grab on to a small gap in the rock.

"Break the blade!"  He screams as he begins to slip.  "KIll him and break the - "

Before he can finish, he looses his grip, and the serpent snaps him in half like a twig.  "GO!"  Jakob yells at it eyes them.  They pass over the gate's rubble, and the seal re-locks behind them, the gate reassembling itself someone pressed a rewind button.

"No turning back now."  Jakob pants.

"Yeah.  It absorbs souls, to put it simply."  Jakob says, walking foward.

The path takes them through a narrow canyon, full of twists and turns.  Coming around a corner, they see two ghostly figures.  One is a woman in pale clothing.  The other is a man in a red suit.

"Uh, hello?"  Jakob asks, stepping closer.

The two figures look up.  Their faces are unfamiliar, with sunken-in eye sockets and grim expressions.

"Are you here to torment us again?"  The man asks, his voice quiet, yet full of hate.  "To brutalize us and mutilate us?"  The woman continues.  "We had no control."  "No control over ourselves."  "Yet you still struck us down."  "Without caring, without regrets."

"Some heroes you are."  They speak simultaneously, fading into obscurity.

(OH WAIT ARE THOSE THE HOUNDS FROM THE BEGINNING)

Pops shakes his head slowly, and breaths deeply for a moment before continuing on. Joseph shudders at their voices.

(Damn, I was sure nobody would figure that out.  Nice job.)

Turning another corner, the group encounters another person.  A tall, somewhat portly woman, in a dark purple dress.

The woman stares at the group, with eyes that have clearly been crying.  "I never even did anything to you."  She sobs.  "You just attacked me out of nowhere, saying you were helping!  You wouldn't even let me defend myself without killing me."

"Some heroes you are."

She vanishes as well.

(Huh... I don't think I remember that one. Unless it's some human form of the spider queen.

Also, I could let Pops tell everyone about how he doesn't believe in heroes, but that might break a bit of your whole "you guys are jerks" thing.)

Joseph blinks thoughtfully while Pops continues onward, ignoring the voices now.
