The dark-purple Hound was not all that fast in his movements, disappearing soon behind the buildings of the torn-down village just moments before a voice became heard, causing him to flicker his ears in curiosity before turning his head about. He saw someone in his line of sight, a woman that seemed to be searching for something.

A small smirk forming upon its muzzle, he turned about on his four paws before giving off a bark that had a curious tone, but one that didn't seem to allow its meaning to be known. It had been a good while since he allowed himself to a plaything, even if it was only for a few fleeting moments.

(....)

(Well, since I can't use this in Essence of Soul, I just realized this would be perfect in Shadowfall. Celina's hallucinatory friend.

Name: Dippet

Age: Unknown

Gender: Genderless

Peronsality:

Appearance: A strange creature born from the mind of a human, this hallucination-esque creature has large, slender arms, it's "legs" a sliver of shadow rising from a blotch of shadow on the ground. Its head is a perfect sphere of shadow, scribble-like spots of faint light where eyes would be. A simple, yet useful creature.

Backstory: Most of us would put down those sounds and slithering shadows at night to an excess, or lack thereof, of sleep, caffiene, etc. But they are real; those gory murders and mysterious disappearances may not be the work of a madman, though they certainly flock towards these people. Ah yes, hallucinatory creatures. Many of them roam in around our bedrooms, and we never know about it, until fear or insanity strikes. Those creatures despise humanity; their power over humans have faded as myths and legends based on themselves have turned into disproven stories from science. Their power by gripping fear over people have weakened over the years, and they hunger for flesh. Correction; most hunger for flesh. Some creatures have been isolated from other hallucinations, born from the mind of most children, incorrectly called "imaginary friends". Of course, most of these creatures die out because the children that they have born from have forgotten or refuse to believe in them. With every rule, however, there is an exception. Those who are fortunate enough to be with a believing child can absorb enough life from the person to become living.... Abilities:

Insubstantial

This creature's existance is a peculiar thing; it cannot interact with physical objects, which may not be a problem if this creature could traverse through walls or of the like. Unfortunately, this creature is substantial enough to not be able to pass through physical barriers.

May I Come In?

This creature is bound by a rule that has been forged when created from the mind of a human; it cannot enter a household unless one of two conditions is met; if the owner of the property invites it in, or if the owner's mind becomes broken or shattered into insanity.

Power Through Insanity

When the minds of those around it fall into insanity, or when around an area of high fluctuations of magic, it becomes a more solid and powerful creature, negating and nullifying the abilities mentioned above. With this power, it can create tendrils, claws, wings, and other protrusions or limbs to attack or help others.

Side Notes: This creature has a fondness for humans, mostly those who have experienced the fall into insanity.

Just lazy stuff.)

"Depends upon your definition of 'talking', dear," the Hound barked in response, clearly messing with the lady that tried to pet him. Humoring her, he pawed himself closer toward the girl, placing himself in reach of her hands so that she may pet him.

It's weird. Anyone who was listening would swearing that all the creature did was bark, and yet, somehow, the minds of those around him were able to understand the barking. Even those would be otherwise incapable of understanding, such as the young human race.

(A good comparison would be an English-subbed anime. You can hear the characters voiced in their original languages, but you understand what is said because of the subtitling near either the top or bottom of the screen.)

Lowering his head to move out of the petting, the Hound took a couple of paws backward before looking up toward the lady.

"Somehow, I severely doubt this," he calmly barked before beginning to turn and walk away, only taking a few steps before turning his head back toward her. "I'd suggest telling no one I was here. In all honesty, I wasn't supposed to intervene in your..." He paused for a second before turning toward the village that continued to clean itself up. "...former disaster." With this, he tried again to simply walk away into the distance, not moving with all that much speed as if he had no reason to hurry.

(Entendre's one of those that would intervene at random, when he deems it needed for his goal, so don't anyone take offense to him suddenly walking off. That's just how he is, especially when by himself.)

Ears flickering for a moment when he heard the sound of a sigh followed by footsteps, the Hound's silver eyes turned back with his head to see his sudden visitor returning toward the village, his muzzle returning to a serious look. "I need to find a way to better follow these prisoners without being seen again. It's just a shame I had to reveal myself to intervene in that mayhem." Looking around the area, he noticed that the attic of one house had a hole in it, just big enough to silently squeeze in and hopefully obverse the next chain of events that should soon follow.

Staying out of public view, the Hound silently steadied his breathing before jumping up into the hole, thankful for the small hole at the other side that allowed him to still see what transpired hopefully without notice.
