"Oh, nothing much.  Just some stuff about an old village."

Jakob turns back to Viti-Mortos.

"So, uh...what do YOU know about Shadowfall?  Any weaknesses, special powers, etc..."

"As far as I know, Shadowfall does not have any weaknesses.  He is practically a god, and that was one of his main goals.  To be invincible.  He is, however, afraid of one thing..."

Jakob shakes his head.  "I never said I knew anything about Hell.  My master says we should keep an open mind about the afterlife, as we have no idea what it really holds..."

"The 'Hell' you mortals speak of is not the 'home of demons' or 'palace of the damned' or whatever you call it."  Viti-Mortos says.  "We demons actually spawn from three different dimensions.  One of those is quite fiery, yes, but, last time I checked...there were no souls there."

Viti-Mortos sighs.  "Haven't you been listening to me?  There is no 'Place of the Damned' that we know of.  We don't know what waits beyond death.  We must simply die and find out.  But that is the very thing Shadowfall fears.  The unknown beyond."

Viti-Mortos gives a faint smile, as if he can read Joseph's thoughts.

"There is no point living in fear of death, mortal.  It is simply a part of life."

The dirt road ends, and is replaced by a path built from mossy cobblestone.  The remnants of an old guardtower lie in ruins next to the road.

Joseph shakes his head, speaking now with more confidence than he had ever had before.

"Make no mistake. Death is not a part of life, it is simply what happens after life has ended."

The words seem to roll off his tongue. After all, he'd heard it a million times before.
