I can't wait to kill it ingame and watch it burst into a pool of goo! Or, you know, the other way around. It's too bad other artists don't share your enthusiasm. In case you missed it due to your offline period, that discussion in the Challenge for the Mod Community thread went on for some more time, I created a thread in the Arts' forum asking the artists over there to share their views on modder/artist collaboration over here (by linking to the Challenge thread) and the only one that replied was Millenium. :razz:So... yeah. There are few artists around here who care about modding, like you do.

nice feedback

Yes, i read the whole thread and i noticed your doppelgänger. I suppose i'm to blame for depositing such faith in my fellow artists around here. I really expected more people to share my enthusiasm for this. If we're congregating here on a forum with +70K users who all love Don't Starve, you'd figure at least a couple of dozen would love to answer a challenge for expanding the game in some way. I know it may sound like work, but things you do for love never feel like it.

:disappointed:

is it okay when i post some suggestions for the lou here?

is it okay when i post some suggestions for the lou here?

More than okay, rabbitfist! They're very welcome.

We already have most of the stuff planned, but there's always room to add more.

We should probably make all plans available on the first post of this thread, so people who'd like to leave suggestions have something to build upon. But Lord_Battal hasn't been around for that. Where are you sneaky Debul?! Will you edit your first post and put this content in it? Feel free to change and add whatever you want to it.

PLANS FOR THE SNAILKING MOD

-------------------------------------------------

Setpiece for the first level of the caves containing:

● The Snailking

Based on a beefalo atlas, it is much larger, faster and does a lot more damage than its small minions, the Snurtles. It has three main behaviours:

● Taunt - Rallies allies to its position and buffs them raising their speed and morale (no more retreat-into-shell fear response).

● Spit Slime - Ranged attack. Does a small amount of damage and seriously slows down the player.

● Headbutt - Melee attack.

The Snailking Mound

The residence of the Snailking, it's bigger than the regular Snurtle Mounds and has a very distinct grandiose design. It is surrounded by a turf of slime, stepping on that turf has the same effect as stepping on a Spider's Den web, it will slow you down and cause the Snailking to come out of its Mound and attack you.

Guard Snurtles

2-4 slightly larger and more powerful Snurtles with different features stand guard at the Snailking Mound and will attack anyone that approaches it.

Snurtle Village

4 or more regular Snurtle Mounds surround the Snailking Mound. The Snurtles that inhabit them will not attack unless provoked, or if the player approaches the Snailking Mound.

Snailking loot

A special item dropped by the Snailking upon its defeat. Since it's the very last thing to be developed on this list, we currently have no idea what it will be. Any suggestions?

What?!!? Left for good?! That is one awful ragequit!

:depressed:

The new forums aren't that bad, and you have to give it a chance, you might even grow to like them better than the old ones...

I mean, i'll have to reinstall my Firefox to be able to use them, which is a monumental task to customize all over again with 50+ addons, and I'M still here. Actually, lately everytime i'm working on this mod i have to have THREE browsers open (one for the wiki which only displays correctly in chrome, another for the forum which doesn't allow to use reply boxes in FF and my dear Firefox where all my browsing power tools are)!!!

Come on Battal, whatever your beef is with this, it can't be that bad!

Besides, Lou's been asking for you and i'm running out of excuses to tell the poor dude, he really misses you! :p

Really hoping he's on hollidays!

Though i've never heard of the Debul taking a vacation...

Outside of graphic novels, at least.

Snailking is still in early stages.

We've managed to get the beefalo atlas very close to perfection. I have faith that after the last few tweaks and the death anims are done -sometime before the end of this week, if i can manage it - we'll be able to enter the second stage of designing its brains and stategraphs, adding little things to the anims like slime projectiles for the ranged attack and extra shrapnel for the Snailking death. Those are all in simplex's hand and i have no idea how complicated they will be.

While that's cooking (if it will take at all long to cook - simplex knows his way around the coding kitchen, so this might be as fast and simple as a microwave dinner lol), i'll be able to address the SK Mound and the Snurtle Guards - which should be a quick task.

Then it's phase 4: putting it all together and beta-testing it to exhaustion! Should be a good mix of pleasure and torture there: seeing it all come to life for the first time and then quickly getting sick of it after the 100th testplay. Hopefully lots of people will want to chip in on this phase and help out debugging it.

Between 3 and 4 there will be time for adding details and other ideas that pop up.

Feel free to meddle along this whole process of course. And thank you for volunteering the help!

If you come up with a cool concept for the Snailking loot i'd be very eager to hear it, since it's the one part of all this that's most hazy.

okay, but i think we should open a new thread to manage an overview, i don't think the devs would make this the whole time

That's actually really surprising, and sad!

I haven't really spent much time on the Art forum - half because I'm busy with my mod work, and half because I'm shy - but I'm definitely an artist ahead of anything else!

I would have expected more artists to jump at the chance to do something cool, like collaborating on a mod!

I'd certainly love to help out where I can, artistically, but I am rather hard at work on assets for the Link mod... which means I don't have as much time as others might. (Though I would like to throw together some quick concept art for the cloud sheep & storm rams - as soon as I read about them... it just really sparked me. Pun intended. ;P)

I come from a film background, which is by very nature an immensely collaborative affair... maybe that's why I expected more artists to be on board...

What a shame...

These Death animations look very painful for the poor king! ^^

Sorry I'm not online very much at the moment...work....I'm hoping the best for next week....but you all achieve something here ^^

I think you mean "WE all achieved something here"

You may have taken a step back, but that doesn't mean you're not a part of this. And i may be a bit to blame for that, i'm a bit of a control freak and i tend to hog all the work on these types of collabs (sorry) Though, as a rule of thumb, It can be very counter-productive to have two artists with two different art styles working the same atlas. But if you have the time, the SK Mound and the Snurtle Guards are still up for grabs.

We few, we happy few!

Those cloud sheep are just begging for it! If i had any free time, i'd have sketched a bunch of them already! Maybe something inspired in Shaun the Sheep (from Wallace & Gromit). And who knows, if it comes out right, maybe down the road, there will a Cloud Sheep plushy for sale!!!!!! Shut up and take my money Klei!!!

P... plushie??

Fun-fact... I absolutely adore plushies.

I am likely going to be that thirty year old woman who has plushies all over her bed.

[ahem]

Which, will... probably explain a lot, when I finish the stuff next update. (Tease tease tease!) ;P

Aww shucks. I didn't think anyone would like them. Y'all are making me all warm and fuzzy.

On topic: I love what you are doing with Lou. Though its probably unneeded, have some strings of him.

Wilson: It's a thing...a big thing. (That one is just classic. Wilson should keep it.)

Willow: I wonder if it's flammable like its minions.

Wendy: It rules an empire of dirt.

Wolfgang: Your shell shall shatter under the might of Wolfgang!

WX-78: ITS SHELL IS BIGGER THAN THE BOULDERS.

Wickerbottom: It is quite remarkable how many of these creatures have similar hierarchies.

Woodie: That's one big snail, eh.

Maxwell: Why does ruling always make them fat.

These have to go into the mod! Team slimy has now an extra L.

Yeah, i hate to bother mods for these types of small issues, i guess we can wait to have a more finalized mod and open a new thread then.

The slime around the snailking mound is currently not possible. This is because of what I discussed with _Q_ at the Up and Away thread: we can make new creep ground types, but there doesn't seem to be a way of specifying their use! Hopefully we'll be able to do that in the near future, but as it is now that's not possible. :/

Yup! Shame to abandon all this.

I missed Battal's thread. I rarely use anything but the "New Content" tab in this forum, completely forgot off-topic threads don't show up there.... :(

This thread does feel emptier lately. The Up and Away thread is hogging the spotlight, we must sabotage it (ok, let's not).

By the way Simplex - I was wrong about the z depth controling what gets drawn first. I'm guessing that effects interaction (as does the other values around there). They might be relative to the character or what you can click on (maybe other animation effects?). Depth is based on the order of elements within a frame. Seems to be drawn in reverse order (e.g elements on the top are drawn last, bottom is drawn first).

Should have played with it a bit more before guessing how it worked /:

Hey, this is reverse-engineering (even with the anim spec provided by Kevin), it's only natural for a few details to be misinterpreted at first. I appreciate the info. [:
