But what would the attack animation be, if using a Beefalo/Koalefant as a base?I tried looking into a way to make the Spider Queen version touch the ground, and there doesn't seem to be one. Even messing with its physics, removing its collision mask and moving it down didn't really cut it.

I've got to go now. I look forward to coming on tomorrow and seeing what you guys come up with. Goodnight, and good luck!

Laters! I'm off too.I'll just leave this here:post-80560-13764598253715_thumb.jpg(couldn't retire withouth drawing another Carcolh! :D)EDIT------Just for fun sketch. I highly doubt the tex-map would allow for such drastic changes... Edited by lifemare

Damn! :CI think on second thought the Koalefant is out of the question, its head is too high on the body. Less sprites to work with also.I don't know about the attack animation, we'll have to put together another tex-map to try that out. But the fact that the head lunges forward to hit an attacker and stretches when chasing it seems very promising....We'll lock horns tomorrow.Hugs! Edited by lifemare

Are you guys still here?

Yups

Getting used to the new forum.

Have to use a different browser to reply, which is pissing me off atm

Can't work on Lou today, but i've prepared a beefalo map for when i have the time, carefully separating the various sprites.

It's a lot more complicated than a spider, can't identify what all the sprites are for even after recording that beefalo video.

I also suspect it will be harder on Simplex to code. And more prone to bugs due to its complexity. Hope not.

There's one thing that might be a problem or an advantage, i'll have to experiment: the beefalo body is composed of two sprites with separate animations to realistically animate a quadruped.

There's also some duplicate sprites that will be problematic to figure out which is being used where ingame...

One thing that is boggling me is the mouth sprites with transparent lines, i can't figure out why they're like that, maybe you guys can:

OK, had a little free time on my hands, so i attenboroughed the hell out of a beefalo for a full day and night.

Managed to pinpoint some textures, but there's still many that never show up.

Want to play a little find Waldo to help me out?

Here's a tex-map with letters over the textures to help identify each one ingame:

atlas-0.rar

And here's an image with all the stuff i already found:

There's some sprites for a side-view ("side-patch", probably the center head next to "horn left", and probably the unidentified horns), but it isn't being used ingame, as far as i can tell.

All the alternative mouth animations below are never used and the game alternates between the "mouth default" and a grafted mix of the sprites labeled as "sleep"/"eat". Will be tough to make a new mouth work with that, but not impossible.

The top left 3 sprites i don't remember ever seeing them in the game, have you?

Hello Folks....I'm finally able to log in and I have to say I was a Little bit agitated because the Forum was refusing to letting me in.....*deep breath*

How are we here?

Hi Millenium! Welcome back!

Still taking the first steps, maybe changing strategy from a spider-based to a beefalo-based Snail King.

Not sure if it will bring more problems instead of solving the ones we're having.

Will definitely allow for a lot more complex body features, but it will be hard as hell to come out perfect.

Creature design is still open if you want to give it a second try with a beefalo base.

But i believe the most pressing issue would be to fully understand how the tex-map is being loaded, to avoid glitches when some as yet unobserved behaviours trigger, leading to broken animations with missing textures.

Although deciding on a cool snail would definitely be a good elixir for the all the headaches down the road.

Ahhh, ok. Yes the Beefalo was the base for the Bear, too.

And as you say the Problem is to assemble the parts correctly...^^ Today I have not much Inspiration and patience for art...and the Forum trolling me wasn't helping.

That's great news! So you've played around with the beefalo textures already for the Bear (btw, where can i see the Bear, i only know your Rhino - which is great btw). That sounds like you'd be the man for the job, then :highspirits:

No worries, taking eagerness aside, there's no deadline on getting this mod up. Yet ;)

The mating call is a pretty neat behaviour that could be used to rally or even buff surrounding snurtles

There's also a random head-shake (like it's getting rid of flies), that has to be integrated into Snail King behaviour somehow...

That mating call thing is an excellent idea...reputation for you.

Sure ^^,

here we have Butters, the Bear, or better the Ursapine, I think this part of the Supermod can be cosidered nearly 100% done. But we had the Problem with the Assembling. This Versions was about to be refined.

hehe! Had help from Attenborough :) glad you like it!

Idea for the mating call behaviour, it acts like mactusks kill animation making neutral slurtles and snurtles in the area attack you

Yes, altough my initial intuition is that every snurtle should immediately aggro when you attack the Snail King, or even if you attack one mob in the Snurtle village (like a beefalo herd). Might work better as a buff, maybe disabling the "retreat into shell" fear response. Perhaps too OP.....

nah as most of the time snurtles and slurtles are in rare supply

The head sprite will have to have a lot of slime dripping at the base, so it creates a skirt above the body solving what would otherwise mean huge problems with alignment of those two sprites. EDIT---- or better yet a necklace of some kind (not an actual necklace, something like fur, or small bony protuberances, i dunno).

There will still be an issue of hovering (though slighter than the spider) from deleting the unnecessary hoof sprites. But i'm confident @simplex will figure a workaround for that ;)

Needs very extensive testing, but there's a chance this can work.

What do you guys think of the drawing?
