Fishing Tweak

Recommended Posts

I'm a big fisher in games and there's one thing that really bothers me about the fishing mechanic in Don't Starve: why do fishing poles lose durability the moment you cast them? I feel like they should lose it after you catch a fish. Changing this would allow the player to quickly leave the pond without worry of durability loss if a frog decides to spring up and attack, and it would also allow the fishing pole to be used an additional time since each use consumes 11% durability and casting on the final 11% just causes the fishing pole to simply break.

I don't think this change would be game breaking at all, it would just make sense. Especially since placeable traps don't lose durability when you put them on the ground.

just a guess, but maybe this:

Changing this would allow the player to quickly leave the pond without worry of durability loss if a frog decides to spring up and attack
is exactly the reason why they did it the way they... did it.

I do admit though that that I find it a bit... not tought through, that the last 11% of a rod render it useless. your suggestion would fix that, but I guess the penalty for leaving the fishing process is indeed intentional, so we need another workaround for that 11% issue I guess.
