Thermal Stones and Thermal tools should not be destroyed in the Scaled Furnace.

I'm not pretty sure whether it is a good idea, but it is really annoying when you want to take out the thermal stone out of the furnace during the winter, but delete it because of a misclick.

you could just not put it in the furnace, the heat is strong when sitting just outside of the furnace too

That is its purpose. Don't put it in if you don't want to destroy it.

Creating more exceptions does not have any benefits.

These are just the consequences of your own actions, don't put items you care about in the structure that deletes almost every item in the game. People do this on public servers all the time and it really bothers me, because there's no real advantage to keeping thermals inside the furnace. If anything it's strictly worse than placing them on the ground, as you have to enter an inventory screen in order to get your thermal out, rather than just picking it up off the ground.
