Thecubedmartian
In the base game, you have early access to plastic via dreckos, in PPP, you have access via gnits/lura plants, in frosty, you have access via nectar- this is important because platic can be melted into naphta and used as coolant in a metal refinery, as the fluid has a very high boiling temperature, heck, even in frosty planet pack its technically possible to use straight nectar as coolant because its so good for freezing/boiling point In the current version of the ocean dlc beta however, unless you are using gunk from boops, or have made it all the way down to the oil biome (which might not be there on some spaced out saves, i havent checked though) there is no easily accessible fluid that can reach 150-200⁰C without flashing to a gas. The new fluids, squid ink, mucin, polluted brine, all have flash points low enough that they cant be used as a high temperature coolant While the abyss biome does have a plant that produces plastic, its hardly an early game thing, and exists at temp and location similar to the oil biome, which makes its usefulness as a plastic producer questionable, as at that point in the game the player already has access to oil. I suggest adding the ability to melt rubber into some sort of high temp capable liquid as a balance fix, maybe with a worse thermal conductivity than naptha, and maybe being able to produce some kind of anti-freeze from mucin for cooling things in the other direction with a thermo aquatuner, though that would be less useful due to the availability of ethanol Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/171673-early-game-balance-issue-with-oceanic-beta/ Share on other sites
Carib94
With the amount of salt water in the Aquatic Map, you can easily use the salt water to do your early game metal refinery needs and get some steel quite early. Until you get oil, petro, or naptha. SkunkMaster
I find the bigger issue being there is no natural source of radiation. With the surface offering a meager 125 rads, using the nuca start block to make a few uran doors seems the best option at this point. suicide commando
The teleporter asteroid has wheezeworts. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/171673-early-game-balance-issue-with-oceanic-beta/#findComment-1868272 Share on other sites
SkunkMaster
Just now, suicide commando said: The teleporter asteroid has wheezeworts. which is rather complicated to get. Think about it, you have to go teleporter planet, find material portal, activate said portal (needs scientist), put seeds in container and then also power it. Depending on your luck this might take 1-2 cycles, or 20 cycles.... Twiki
By the time you're ready to use radiation, you should be able to handle the transporter on the 2nd world. Early game, I just wire a hamster wheel to it. I am still to find my teleporter to begin with. - Found the material teleporters, but that's it. Come to the point where i'll just use nuca doors, seeing how i don't want to bother with bees.
