The same way a player might prefer to use a lantern over a miner hat: there’s option of choice. It really isn’t the worlds most unrealistic thing for a player to use fireflies, especially since they don’t spoil and the total fuel amount of a stack of fireflies is twice as much as light bulbs. Back when I used a lantern only if my enlightened crown wasn’t emitting light, I used to just sip ~1-2 fireflies from my magician chest to keep it fueled every year.

Infinite food, sanity and heallth, and teleporting around the map like you are in god mode by spending 3 minutes in the killer bee biome and getting like 80 souls. You pay to play in creative mode basically

just go to caves for light bulbs why would u become the pirates of Caribbean and go for adventure for miner hat's fuel
