If the drones will target only 1 target, I would suggest more speed, they should be always as fast as WX78, depending on speed and they should also act like Walter's pure horror rounds where they fly to the target at the speed of ammo and keep on the target like the damage overtime effect.

Also upgrading them with pure horror or dreadstones would be nice.

Hello Klei:

The shadow affinity of WX-78 has been modified numerous times, but the final result still falls short of the original version. I still remember that you once said you hoped the skill tree of WX-78 could be presented better, and the practice of multiple modifications and each update only producing one skill tree was in line with your original intention of presenting a more utility skill tree. However, now the shadow affinity skill of WX-78 can hardly be called utility. Undeniably, Auto-Grabber and using the mimic equipment are indeed good designs, but you can take a look at the voices of the players on the forum. The most discussed point is the change in the damage increase of Exploiterator is too poor after inserting the Shadow Atrium. It can be seen that even with increased flexibility, the practicality is still quite average, and it performs poorly on group units (a typical example is the Bee Queen). The targeting of enemies keeps changing, which is very disorienting. Therefore, in this aspect, I hope you can make some optimizations. For example, change the Exploiterator to have range effect (you can refer to the spherical light bug you did before), and each drone can cover the attack range of the robot (this way it can be more convenient for simultaneous effect), so as to retain the robot's character traits while making the Exploiterator more user-friendly and utility. At the same time, I hope that for the Exploiterator with the possessed shadow atrium, it can have an enhanced effect of planar damage. After all, with the possession shadow atrium, the increase of planar damage is more utility.

I'm not going to lie, it is a bit strange how insistent they are to keep the drone version when they were so ready to drop the old version like a sack of rocks out of nowhere

Maybe to sell more skins? The previous version didn't have items for the factory, so it didn't have skins.

I'd say it's because it aligns better with Wx as a character yeah shadow powers look cool but robotics is what represents him the old design was like if Wolfgang got a spell book for his skill tree. Odds are what he had will be somewhat ported to Maxwell's or Wanda's skill tree.

the update broke my already existing world, if I try to switch to and old wx clone(including the one I am using) it crashes the game, also, I have 2 backup chaises on standby, if I destroy one I can still only create 2 more, idk why this happened yesterday everything was fine now it broke

Yeah yeah, whatever you keep saying.

But did it really have to be mechanically downgraded to "improve" it thematically? It couldn't have been that hard to change visuals and nothing else.

You already asked and I already answered that. I'm only bringing this point up again because despite how much people liked it for being "cool looking" it literally didn't make sense when compared to every other skill tree.

If the mechanic of copy your action is going to stay (which I love it)

The shadow affinity would be nicer to have a visual that speak more dark magicy? I would rather have a mimic ooze out from me and turn their eyeball into a mouth and swallow stuff / shadowy hands to pick stuff or SLAP other to grant damage boost.

you only answered about the looks, nothing about the mechanic or how it works, which could easily be the same while changing the vfx

I'm not digging for my original post on it but luckily my quoted comments already had a answer to disprove this not even that long ago once again.

I'd actually mentioned that it could have similar functions way back when they made the change so pretty much yes however.

This however I can't really agree with I know the idea of making things more powerful is met by mass approval by most of the community but it being weaker than the lunar path is fair because the lunar path has a maintenance cost and a high one at that. Sure they could also give the shadow side a maintenance cost to balance it out I think it being more chill gives it a nice niche. It definitely needs improvements but it shouldn't become too much stronger than the 1.0 version.

Wonder if this'll loop again once more?

By the way can we get back on topic now?

you are the only only i see that want to die in this hill of, both mechanic and visuals change make sense, most that liked the drones agreed that in mechanic the original was superior, we got even three to four posts that people voted that show that, but alright ig you want so much to have something worse as long it's beautiful

Mimicreep

They can already do these two things. Drones aren't consistent with the rest of the Shadow abilities. At least shadow hands used to be consistent; now they aren't. If the drones are here to stay, their appearance should at least be improved. They look like standard drones

In fact, they look even more 'standard' than the standard drones.

I am referring specifically to the visual design and aesthetics

Honestly the shadow abilities that remain just aren't consistent with Wx well the eating nightmare fuel part still fits but that's a separate case. I'd assume they didn't want to make too many add-ons so they left it as is. Personally I thought it'd be cool if it made holograms of the items that functioned the same but with a darkened tint on the holograms perhaps even with additional effects depending on the cloned items.

The possessed chassis in the Lunar skill tree make sense since we saw them in the intermission animation, the Warbot fight, and while they were possessing other creatures in-game; however, there is no precedent for what they do in the Shadow affinity. The fact that they haven't existed before doesn't mean they can't exist now. If you look at the abilities of the Fuelweaver with the Atrium, these things are certainly not impossible.

And let's also not forget that we obtained these with Charlie (Shadow Queen)'s help.

I think you misunderstand what the issue was when characters get their affinity skills they are them using shadow or lunar powers in a way that represents the characters personality or actions. It's not that klei couldn't give characters random powers because another entity on the constant could do that it's that these are supposed to make sense to the nature of the character.

That's why I brought up the spellcasting Wolfgang earlier. He could very well learn how to use spells as if he couldn't some gameplay elements wouldn't make sense but him becoming a spellcaster as his affinity skill would be jarring no? This doesn't mean I'd be against the drones becoming more shadowy or anything just that his focus on blending shadows with technology should be the focus of the character not him suddenly gaining a bunch of shadow powers that should be left for Maxwell.

Wolfgang can cast spells with his perk tree, though.

There he is, with a wizard hat and everything.

I see where you're coming from. Affinity skills should incorporate the shadow theme without feeling disconnected from the character itself; that sounds logical. While the previous version felt a bit more like something Maxwell would do, the current one doesn't feel 'shadowy' enough to me. Regardless, I’m still bothered by the fact that they nerfed the abilities alongside the design changes, even though it was supposed to be just a visual update.
