Trigan
OKAY! So this theory will revolve around the idea that this game will be a sequel to Don't Starve Together, where something happens and everyone gets transported to this new constant. I bet, that both sides of Them, will be combined into one thing. Wagstaff and Charlie will have a peak in their fued during DST and maybe Wagstaff will do something terrible and it affects the constant so much that a giant fusion event happens (possibly even with the gorge, as we see lots of gorge imagery in the trailer) causing the Shadows and Lunar entities to combine, creating what is known as the "Fog" on the DSE steam page. My evidence for such is as follows: The fog is something that has something to do with hurting your sanity "A thick Fog is creeping across the landscape, cursing all it touches. Will you run from it, or risk your sanity to explore its secrets?". But the fog is not black and shadowy, its white. The Fog is also seen 'altering' things (assuming the fog is the creepy white mist that Willow is talking about) and guess who's NAME is Alter? THE LUNAR THEY/THEM. Also present in this picture is Mr. Skitts. A decidedly shadow creature from Don't Starve who is NOT black but WHITE. Another shaky piece of evidence I am now realising is kinda crap is that The Broken Doll at the end of the trailer is shimmering as if it were a hologram like wagstaff. So combine the broken doll who represents charlie in the DST play, and wagstaff who is a hologram and you get whatever **** storm that is happening in the Elsewhere constant. U Unfortunatly I now see that most of the animated characters in the trailer seem to be shimmering in this way possibly as a stylistic choice so it may not be true but ah well. This would also be a very smart thing for klei to do as it saves them having to redevelop two branches of similar mechanics AND storylines AND progression. 1 6 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/170908-my-predictions-for-the-fog-and-them/ Share on other sites
Harrowick
That's what I was thinking as well! the war between the shadows and the moon resulting in the two forces merging into one ominous force is such a cool concept for series evolution and opens up so many possibilities!! I also love LOVEEE how thematic the fog is as a mixture, it combines the darkness of the shadows with the horrors of the lunar light to create a grey hazy fog AAAAA 2 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/170908-my-predictions-for-the-fog-and-them/#findComment-1862387 Share on other sites

For a split second in the trailer where they are fighting the dolls, right before the footage changes to the next scene. One of the Dolls die and drops nightmare fuel and porcelain pieces. Honestly I think it could be interesting if the fog is a whole new entity, like a reimagined Gnaw. 4 3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/170908-my-predictions-for-the-fog-and-them/#findComment-1862456 Share on other sites
SKYPORF
I'm guessing that it's going to be expanding upon the shipwrecked fog 2 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/170908-my-predictions-for-the-fog-and-them/#findComment-1862472 Share on other sites

Who said they couldn't have also merged with the Gnaw? 😁 I do really like this theory though it did made me scratch my head as to why the Doll at the end, which might be a representation of Charlie... or what's left of her assuming this game is a sequel, was also a hologram. Cool theory! Zeklo
While I'm sure the shadows will probably still play a part, considering how important they are to Don't Starve's identity and nightmare fuel already shown in the trailer, I do hope it takes more of a backseat. I think giving Elsewhere some room to breathe, and establish it's own identity would be a nice change of pace. I'd rather the Fog be Gnaw tied, or entirely original. 1 1 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/170908-my-predictions-for-the-fog-and-them/#findComment-1862706 Share on other sites
