Of course theres going to being a slightly changed art style. Its a different game. And technology has improved since then. Its been how long?

My only complaint is that the color palette is too desaturated/grayish, and I feel like this is among the things that can be fixed relatively easy without overhauling the entire game

technological improvement is irrelevant here. both don't starve's and elsewhere's art style could be achieved with very very limited technology. the difference between singleplayer/together and elsewhere has nothing to do with improvements in technology. it's like looking at two paintings a decade apart, created with the same materials and medium, noting the different styles, and somehow pointing to the idea that the mere passage of time is responsible for different directions and ideas.

them being different games also doesn't quite fit given we already have two games that look identical. i know what youre going for here but you need to articulate it better. there is something different about Elsewhere that you believe calls for the original style to be altered. what is that?

Meh, I'm not too worried about the style at this stage, If you look back the development of don't starve, like really really early, it has a lot of the same "not done cooking yet" kind of visuals. A lot of things are still being worked on clearly, so most of what we have seen is subject to change, who knows, maybe even some of the ways the lighting works could change.
