Greetings!

I have been working for 8+ months on a revised speech file, and I am finally ready to share it!

Features:

  • Quotes/Announcements sorted by update, and alphabetized
  • If using an editor that supports it, collapsible categories
  • All items have their actual in-game names above them, commented out
  • Announcements are labelled to what they correlate to

Example of categories when they are collapsed

Example of an un-collapsed category

F.A.Q.

Q: Will this template work with <Default>'s speech file tool?

A: Unfortunately, no. The way the tool works seems to re-build the whole speech file.

Q: How will you handle updating?

A: I will simply upload a new file here when I have adjusted for new content updates/additions, which then users can copy and paste categories to the bottom of their speech file, and voila! Updated.

Q: What's next?
A: I would like to add versions for other mods, eg. Island Adventures, The Winterlands, etc...

Q: Do you have any way to support your projects?
A: I do! I have a Ko-Fi! But, I mainly do this because I'm passionate about Don't Starve :wilson_blush:

Q: Is there a Steam Workshop version?
A: Yes! There is! You can find it at the link here! This is how I'll be posting change-logs for versions to see what was changed!

If you find any mistakes, errors, problems, or likewise, please comment here! I'll address them as fast as I can!

so it seems if i understand correct, i cant like copy paste your thing into this one replace the old speech file or how would that work exactly?

Im struggling a little to understand your question, but this file works exactly like a regular speech file, so as long as its named correctly (eg. "speech_(character)"), it will work in-game. Sorry if I didn't answer that correctly

Ahh I see! Yes! This file will work just like a standard speech file; so yep! You can replace the old one with this one :)

Hey, so, first of all I'd like to thank you guy's work on this tool, writing character speech can be pretty messy and this template really helps a lot.

I was using this for my wip mod and when I got to testing it ingame, all of the character's examinations quotes were just the default wilson ones.
At first I thought I just messed something up, so I re-downloaded the template and only changed the florid postern's quotes but the quote was still the wilson one ingame.
After that, I extracted the game's current "speech_wilson" file, renamed the file to what I was using, changed the florid postern's quote and that worked just fine, didn't change anything in any other file.

Can anyone else confirm if this is just a me problem when using the template? I'm using the file indexed in the post btw
