Why do I have to play with a mere 3 backups? I need more! There should be a maximum of 4 backups, per shard!

The tree is all over the place with balancing. I think it would be fun to have more backups, but also, it is long range instant teleportation with no cooldown. So we shouldn't be going too overkill. I think it'd be cool if you could unlock more at various progression points throughout the game, kinda like how you can unlock the circuits at various progression points.

Wanda approaches having long ranged instantaneous teleportation with negligible cooldown as day count increases to infinity.

Winona has literally long ranged instantaneous teleportation with no cooldown, on day 20.

Wortox has...you know, he's Wortox

And WX's is very cheap to set up, but limited maximum and can't carry over inventories. Still would be cool if it could be expanded later in game progression.

does every character need a super crazy teleport? WX has a method of teleporting that is unique and flavorful to them that comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. I don't think we needed another Wortox or Wanda.

Yes next question. be me. no teleporting. 10-20 minutes to walk to a biome grab or do something and do the same back. wortox:0 minute chad who can spend more time multitasking

The teleport needs to be nerfed if anything.

4 nightmare fuel, 4 living logs, 8 gold for a telelocator focus
4 nightmare fuel, 2 living logs and 2 purple gems for a 5 use telelocator staff
3 purple gems every time and the need to setup the structure first before using it.
And it also creates a lightning strike, which can cause rain to fall.

Wx needs 1 gears and 1 red gem, and can teleport indefinitely with no range and no cooldown. The only drawback is that you lose your items and circuits that you can take there with a transport drone that costs a doodad and 3 boards.

i mean, if you want to remove all of your circuits (damaging them), make like 3-4 transport drones that all have travel times, move all of your items between these drones except for the backpack you almost always have and are forced to leave behind, and lose charges between teleports, utilizing your limited backup bodies specifically for this purpose, instead of just walking somewhere as the fastest character in the game, then sure it's stronger than the worst and most needlessly expensive method of transport in Don't Starve.

Listen, in late game, you don't need to transport the items, you can have duplicates and just transport the unique ones. The fact that I can leave one ready-to-fight chassis at the dragon fly and kill her on cooldown, send the drops back on a transport and do that in an instant is kind of strong already, no need to buff it even more. The fact that you can have a body for each function you want at a specific place that would otherwise need an ocean to travel to makes it so this skill does not need a buff. I can leave a chassi at the moon quay at the cost of 1 gears and 1 red gem, teleport, grab something, transport the item, teleport back. I can leave one at lunar island, teleport, arrange the altars, teleport back and it costed me literally nothing, which otherwise would take a whole trip + an ocean trip, and it can scale up if you have no wormholes and a base far away from it. The fact that I can leave a chassi at pearl, grab one thing or another, transport the items there, then teleport in, give her the items, transport the drops back, then teleport back in less than some seconds and you still think it should be viable to buff even more this skill? alongside everything wx78 already has as features? Wanda has these features but she has a big downside, Wanda has these teleport features but she does not got 20 other features alongside it.

Now let's assume you're playing it in early game, having the ability to instantly take something from base, come back and the cost was a transport drone, that's wortox levels of power, with a single skill, alongside everything wx78 already has, and not even needing souls to teleport. The only real cost is setup, which again, is not expensive at all, just 1 gears and 1 red gem.

I would maybe, just maybe advocate for at least 2 more chassis available (like each skill giving 2 chassis instead of one) as long as the cost of them is way more expensive or there is a small cost of purple gems to teleport with them

If the discussion is late game then there doesn’t need to be any discussion on whether WX’s backups are overpowered. I also never said they needed to be buffed, so I’m not sure where that came from. I don’t understand that mindset where me thinking that it isn’t overpowered means that I think it’s weak or needs a buff. It is fine as is. Comparing a character with a skill tree to one that doesn’t have one like Wanda is not really productive either.

The unique strength of the backup bodies over other teleports is that it essentially lets you be in multiple places at once, though just the fact that it is essentially only transferring controls and not really your character is already more than enough of a downside. Everything you mentioned that the backups can do are things that are special to WX, which I don’t see anything wrong with. It is not explicitly stronger than what any of the other teleport characters can do, and if anything WX is probably the weakest of these teleport characters if you explicitly use them that way. It is a versatile and unique tool that ties well into their kit.

souls are not a good metric to go up against considering how quickly you can farm them.
also I really wouldn't think to hard on the current cost. that is usually the first thing to get tweaked.

  • that aside we are cutting the cost sink short by discounting the amount of resources that go into fully socketing all the shells and equipping them each with armor or tools or whatever you need multiples of.
  • also define battle ready.if yo are going in with zero charge(or thats what it says) meaning no health boosts, no speed, no anything else unless you have a way to readily charge yourself like a gemerator which is even more investment.(This line is incorrect)
  • if we are talking about transporting items then he has to compete with woby which is free and max which is instant.

I'd say its relatively balanced/ok aside from the initial cost which I am sure is going up. Most importantly its different from flat teleportation

I think it's really strong. I think the limit of how many you can make could be a bit higher. I think the cost of production of these is currently a makeshift and for their cost they are way too cheap and should be way more expensive considering that you don't lose them and you set them up in a place beforehand.

Yeah and it's a pretty creative and cool idea. But because the main thing about it isn't mainly teleportation, and because it's just a skill in a skill tree and not a main feature, I think the cost of 1 gears and 1 red gem is too cheap. If that's changed to be more expensive then it is already perfect.

The tele locator needs buffed.

It was bad before any character had teleportation, and still is.

It's an awesome item, I love it because I myself do not have teleportation on my kit, nor do I have friends playing the ones who do have, so it's really nice to have this item in the game, it saves a bunch of time and the cost is not really as relevant in the late game so it's ok to use. No reason to make it cheaper, the only thing I would like would be to make it so I can choose which telelocator focus I wanna go to (if they have the gems in them), that little QoL would already suffice updating it.

You can only have 2 transport drones max.

I thought it might be nerfed at first but I may be wrong

I’d make it only take 1 purple gem for small mobs and players but yeah.

Yes. It used to be called "Telelocator Staff", but the devs don't want to make it good for whatever reason.

The ones that map out the world you can only have two of, but the transport drones that deliver items are infinite, you can make as many as you want. It's not as strong a people make it out to be (if anyone was... I haven't seen anyone say this was busted) but it is valuable. Even if Wx didn't have the drones, we could just use the rabbit king's horn.

Yeah the telelocator got a lot better with the year of the knight's update to clockworks! Being able to make a ton of bishops out of stone, zapping them with electric fences and killing them gives so SO many purple gems it's great. Then all the excess gears can be used underground to make robot army, this is how I kill misery toadstool now! The robot uprising began with year of the clockwork, it continues with Wx.

Requires an individual clock for each destination and doesn't even indicate where each individual one goes when you have a lot of them. Requires a season locked item that exists in limited quantity and has a cooldown.

Wx-78's version is cheaper, free use and no cooldown.

Requires a consistent energy source and isn't as easy to relocate but alternatively can be fueled infinitely using an end game resource.

Once again Wx's very is not only free without restrictions besides the number but can be done very early.

At this point Klei is backing themselves into the buff telelocator corner. Maybe the staff gets 10 uses and it exhausts 1 purple gem with the other 2 as surplus charge. It could even still be a requirement to 'fully charge' a focus with 3 gems before it can be used, just reduce the cost (after which it is still usable with its dwindling charge). Actually, that seems a better alignment with lazy-deserter, loosely considering the seasonal availability and minimal demand for desert stones. It also seems a good balance given red gem value creep that has happened with several skill trees.
