Hey everyone,

I just started an ONI-focused YT channel called Poietilinx. The channel actually came about because I was helping one friend who was really struggling with the game, while another friend kept pushing me to join the forum and share some of my most complex designs with the community. Since I'm currently unemployed and have the free time, I figured, why not try recording some of my stuff!

I have about 5.3k hours in the game; and while I know I can create some very interesting this in oxygen, I want to make sure I’m actually making things that the community wants to watch.

So I wanted to ask the community: What kind of ONI content do you feel is currently missing or that you’d love to see more of?

To give a little context on my channel's direction: I’m specifically trying to avoid falling into the standard format of just doing build showcases or step-by-step tutorials. While I'm totally comfortable explaining things to beginners, I know I have a habit of ramping up the complexity way too fast, which can easily leave people lost in the sauce [I am trying to get better with that]. Plus, I feel that standard tutorial format wouldn't be as fun for me to make. I'm aiming for a consistent video style that could eventually translate well to other base-building games.

Right now, I tend to lean towards creative, off-meta let's plays and unique problem-solving approaches, but I am very open to ideas, and I do wanna know what the community has to say.

  • Do you prefer narrative-driven gameplay?

  • Deep-dives into the logic and decision-making behind weird, off-meta builds (rather than just how to construct them)?

  • Challenge runs or specific scenario restrictions?

  • Something completely different?

Rn I have started been making videos that focus on me explaining the basic rules of the game, and the overall mentality behind my designs.
If anyone feel like checking the channel, that would be awesome :D, but, just don't judge the content for the first 3 videos cuz... they'r kinda baaad D: I'm still learning how to do this stuff lol haha, speak is hard x.x

I’d love to hear the community's thoughts, I would surely help me in this project :love_heart:

A quick disclaimer: I know self-promotion is often looked down upon, but I really felt I needed to have this discussion in a safe place with the people who actually play and think deeply about ONI, rather than just random guessing. luv you all

For me? Nothing. But I think what you should mainly focus on is tutorials and the various start- and mid-game challenges. For variation, you can do examples on different starting maps, because it is vastly different for each map type. For example, "How to get to permanent food / oxygen supply" fast or slow, "How to get first electricity grid or can you actually do a long time without (you can)". Things like that.

To me as an experienced player, 2 things are a must: things I haven't seen before (self-imposed challenges, new content, rarely used builds/mechanics/pipelines - doesn't matter if it's gameplay, "thoughts on", theory crafting or even a tier list), and editing (having ONI videos playing in the background just doesn't do it for me and I'm not sitting through 50 hours of predictable gameplay to see a sour gas boiler get built). Not stating the goal (or something to grab the attention) for the episode (on the title, chapters or in the actual video at the beginning) is a turn-off when asking the viewer to spend hours of their time.

I am very slow player compared to oni series on yt. not even got into metal refinery and steel yet even over 500 cycles. a lot of delay due to cleaning up (map) and fixing everything step by step. watch oni series just for reminding that my colony is also need to do that build. Also while i building and improve that was and there are a lot distraction from the progress.

It's awesome to see more people and wanting to make videos of this game! In fact i made an account just to reply to to this post

The main form of content I watch of this game is playthroughs followed by guides. Playthroughs for the relaxation and guides for the info and help. I have watched some challenge runs but it really depends on the challenge if it would be something I'd watch.

I think I'd watch just about anything but most important for me I feel is editing out the "downtime". Basically when you're sitting and waiting for the Duplicants to finish doing their job. It can be filled with a bunch of different things like plans, mini side projects or some kind of humor but trying to fill it with idle talk is when I skip forward in the video

I'm happy to see you mention off-meta builds as those were exactly what got me into the game to begin with. And big yes to the deep dives I want to know why one would make a build even if it is strange and there's better alternatives and even if that reason is just "it's thematic"

When you say narrative driven gameplay do you mean like how Hazzor or GrimKleaper (I don't know how else to be sure of what you mean without naming other youtubers sorry i mean no disrespect) make videos? That would be quite interesting to see as i haven't seen that about ONI i think

I haven't watched a video of yours yet as it's getting quite late here but I will watch a couple tomorrow and I can return with more of my thoughts to either here or in the youtube comments if you want

In any case I hope the algorithm blesses you with visibility and good luck!
