Jakepeng99 Posted March 3 Share Posted March 3 (edited) I believe after they let us feed beefalos while riding them, it removed the main downside of beefalo where you had to find a safe space to heal. This post will rework the healing mechanic, as well as try give some buffs to some aspects, and make the experience of beefalos overall better. Also enjoy a pudgy beefalo rework. Feeding/Healing Rework Right now, the meta is to get low hunger foods with decent health regen. This is because beefalos eat foods faster the less hunger they are worth. I will rework this so higher hunger foods are way more worth it, and overall nerf small foods in general. Now, the higher the hunger of a food, the higher the multiplier for the health the beefalo regenerates. The base multiplier is 3x, however this will be reduced to 1x at minimum for stuff with zero hunger. This will grow higher the more hunger value the food. Some examples: • Blue mushroom: around 1.5x. • Buttermuffin: around 2.5x. • Dragon Pie: Around 4x. • Fresh Fruit Crepes: Around 8x. I just made these numbers up for examples. They can obviously be changed and rebalanced. The multiplier could scale better in hindsight because of the next change to healing. Also you can no longer cancel for eating animation by moving, and healing and hunger is applied after the animation finishes. Punishment for Healing While getting hit Now if your beefalo gets hit while eating, it will spit it out in the direction you face at a random distance. It will lose 25% freshness, be wet, and have a 25% chance to become wet goop. This is so you will have to be in a safe place to heal, being similar to before. It also still makes the small hunger foods viable for aggressive play, and high hunger foods better for more defence. This may seem tough, though it’s fair. However, new buffs to the Pudgy Beefalos involve this mechanic, bringing a new beefalo play style… Pudgy Beefalo Rework The pudgy beefalo has always been sorta useless. It’s only upside it’s extra Sainity regen, but it comes with tons of downsides. Let’s rework it with new additions. 1. The pudgy beefalo now does 34 damage like any other beefalo instead of 20. I thought of making it 42.5 but decided that was overkill. Unsure. 2. The pudgy beefalo now has a 35% damage resistance. This and upcoming changes will make the pudgy beefalo the best for tanking and surviving. 3. The pudgy beefalo is less punishing for healing. Pudgy beefalo will eat 35% faster. When hit while eating, the 25% chance to spit out the food as wet goop is replaced with a 25% chance to swallow and eat the food instantly. 4. Pudgy beefalo now gives Winter Insulation. These changes hopefully make pudgy beefalo viable now, but not too strong. It should be good for things like the ruins due to its survivability letting it save resources, and Sainity regen. It would also be great at close range combat due to its increased eating speed, which compensates its speed. Misc Changes • You can now mount beefalo while they are aggressive regardless of saddle as long as they are tamed. This is more frustrating than challenging. Do you guys have any suggestions? This is technically correct, but for the wrong reason. Beefalo eat at the same speed regardless of what the food item is while mounted. I was gonna comment on other parts of the post but then I realized I don't actually care all that much. The changes on paper seem fine, even if I'd definitely dislike having the punishment mechanic in the game. I can't really make an argument against it though, other then "I don't want a punishment mechanic for getting hit while healing to exist in the game because it'd make the game less fun for me". Your locked in the animation while eating when your on foot, so i dont get why it shouldnt really apply for beefalo besides the initial animation. Its meant to be you go in, then you go out and heal, just like the pre-beefalo buff. Its just the old way but better quality of life. Not really sluggish if you decide to use the low hunger foods like how it originally was, which was how everyone used beefalo and never complained. The punishment for healing isnt even that punishing at all, you can just pick it up again its just meant to throw you off a little.
