Salt crystals Salt_Crystals.webp.2bae7254448277839fd18cc9ef6aefb0.webp come from salt formations, and I'll mostly use them for two things.

Gourmet_Salt_Lick.webp.95fc7cd76e383a5f2f6b11c7d21d76b1.webp and Salt_Box.webp.023bb2fdda0a3ce6401347ef6673ed6a.webp

Do I ever go out of my way to get salt for anything else? No, not really.

when applied to food it restores 50% of the freshness of food... and thats kinda it. Does everything in the game need some super awsome use? No, but i think salt crystals offer a unique opportunity.

The chad salt formation

Salt formations encourage ocean exploration, but people tend to stop looking for more past the first set they find. With just two structures, and how tedious they can be to sail around to mine, why bother getting more than you need?

TL;DR What if Salt crystals offered Luck?Salt_Crystals.webp.2bae7254448277839fd18cc9ef6aefb0.webp

Once the current year of the horse event is over, klei may look at some existing items or add new ones to give new sources of Luck. Allowing salt crystals to provide some luck via new crafts or recipes could add new life/purpose to the item. Not only that but it would add value to the ocean and sailing.

Spoiler

Salt is also known in a lot of cultures to be lucky and ward of evil.

Also i feel salt formations have some inheret balance with the wait time for them to regrow. The time it takes to sail from formation to formation and initial resource/time investment to find them also isnt cheap. Not to mention the fact they're protected by a mob. All of this means they could give a hefty amount of luck.

I...did not know you could apply salt to food. Thank you. So I haven't explored the pearl update yet, doesn't her new stuff use salt?

But yea I do think there could be some timed use of salt for increasing luck. Maybe a little animation for throwing it over the shoulder? That'd be neat.

Makes sense, i feel it would be nice to have on hand early on but needing a boat kinda slows me down personally. Especially with needing a base and winter on the horizon. Then if you get around to killing bee queen... well it kinda drops off because of bundling wraps.

I get not a lot of people would make the effort. I can see it being easily overlooked. And yeah pearl has some stuff but its so incredibly late game that i dont think a lot of players get around to using those items often.

I like your suggestion, i can see some lucky dust like item being a new craft.

Similarly, Warly's seasoning salt needs some love. Making it lengthen food spoilage timers would give salt another use.

Yes! I had that in my original post but I think i wrote it very poorly and some stuff was misunderstood. I dont think people use his seasoning salt to boost the healing on foods very much. People just spam spicy seasoning. I would really enjoy for Warly to get the most out of a change that makes salt lucky for himself.

Does placing salt on the ground for Slurtles to eat not harm them? If not it really should. Salt + Slug = No more Slug.

There's animations for slurtles to die to salt, just not an implemented mechanic yet.

it's because the healing SUCKS. Like it's genuinely almost nothing. at most it's +15 health on a dish that gives +60 health already. that's less than 2 spider glands or just 1 salve. (no I'm not counting mandrake soup though it can give more hp) I would prefer if it extended/ restarted the spoilage timer on dishes.

Thats not really going to impact his gameplay much. I dont think most players with experience (ppl most likely to pick Warly) have trouble with spoilage.

Luck could enhance his gameplay a lot more with obtaining more mob drops like voltgoat horns. And luck could influence seed drops and when opening giant veggies. One of the biggest slogs as Warly is getting an ample supply of ingredients in the first place. For lower food spoilage it makes more sense to buff is cheff's pouch which doesnt do much past the first few days. The first things a lot of experienced Warlys do is farm veggies or make a volt goat autofarm with anenemy.

yeah, but it's more than current salt would. I think sadly, 1 change won't fix Warly though. He has a lot of structural flaws that are gonna need addressing.

? Why luck?

they already mentioned it in the post but essentially in some cultures salt is considered lucky

true, rn my main issues with warly are
1. his main gimmick of special foods benefit other survivors more than it benefits him
and
2. alot of his portable crockpot items require dedicated inventory space, meaning that with all 3 you're essentially playing with 3 less inventory slots than a normal survivor and on the same level as wheeler, who has extremely strong survivability and strengths on her own in DS. you CAN place them at base but at that point they're not really portable
