Why aren't any birds dropping feathers?

Idk if I missed a feature about the lunar rifts or something but I've killed like 2 dozen canaries and not a single one has dropped a feather

Canaries, specifically, are the bird that is considerably less likely to drop a feather upon death (it’s an ~7% drop chance compared to the others 50% drop chance). You’re meant to have a few birdcages in the caves to poison them and free them on the surface if you want to farm feathers (as each bird drops 5-6 in this manner).
