I had this idea right after seeing that in the most recent beta update theres a change related to docks, this one:

  • New minimap tile textures for Docks and Shell Beach Turf "

That and, I use docks a lot for farms, bridges, and some bases/port areas I've made.

And I have to say, as much as I like docks in the game...the texture is kinda ugly. Specially if theres lots of it, like a whole 10x10 dock area,

I understand that docks (atleast visually) are supposed to look unstable, since you learn it from pirate monkeys and all that. But I think that a new skin for the docks would be awesome, maybe something more "polished", like the wood chunks being better aligned, a stone version, or stone at the edgesĀ :wilson_lightbulb:

Klei said that it's impossible to add skins for turfs as to how they work, at least for now, so they rather add new turfs.

Yeah I guess that changing tiles after its "on the floor" must be pretty hard to implement, but what about making a skin for the item itself? This way, once the dock is built you can't change the skin, but you have 2 versions for it, something like that.

Or maybe a special interaction with the Monkey Queen? For example, ruins bananas and surface bananas could have a different ID. So maybe if you give her a cave banana she finds it special and throws you another blueprint for better looking docks or other stuff? Idk, just some random idea

ya exactly, when u craft it u can change skin or when u drop the turf on ground or dig it up using pitch here u can use sweeper its simple

Maybe make players able to place turf on top of docks. Probably with some slight, very minor, sprite change/overlay to tell that it's still a dock though. That way, docks are super easily customizable too, and I wouldn't have to spend my entire life savings on weaving new dock skins 😬

Turfs in the inventory are an item. Once placed, they're essentially just a single number stored at an x/y index in a table. (There's a few other tables, so you can have webs and vine bridges over stuff. Farm moisture and nutrients. Bridge damage. The system gets more convoluted each time new features are added.)

Compare to structures, which are full entities that can store data, be set on fire, etc. It would be better if they rewrote the whole thing so there was a single entity type that represented everything about a tile, rather than a bunch of functions that give specific info at a requested coord, but that's not likely happening any time soon.
