There is a mod known "Don't Starve Alone", a server mod. I have not played using it myself, but based on what I have seen from those who have, it seems to provide a lag-free Don’t Starve Together experience, very similar to the old single-player Don’t Starve.

The requirements are simple: there is only a single player. However, the issue with the mod is that it works only with local saves, and according to what I have read, when switching from a local save to a Steam Cloud save, problems can occur, such as the cave map being deleted.

The fact that one or a few people can come along and create a mod that allows us to play on a local save with absolutely no lag is genuinely interesting. For years, players have not been offered a 100% lag-free experience. Why do players who play solo still have to deal with something called “lag”? I started playing the game again after many years, and this has always been the main issue I am dissatisfied with.

I am not well-versed in the technical side, but if one or a few knowledgeable individuals can design a working “lag-eliminating” mod even if it has some disadvantages, it feels like this is something a company should be able to implement officially.

I just wanted to share my thoughts. Many people struggle with lag in their solo worlds, and this should not be the case. Of course, lag is expected in multiplayer servers, it would be ignorant to claim otherwise. But for someone playing solo, even if I do not know the technical details, they should be able to play without lag.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

After hearing so much about this mod, I finally installed it in my world to try it out. Worst thing I ever did. I discovered I couldn't save to the cloud, and when I tried to remove the mod, I lost all my progress on the cave and the ruins.

I never save to the cloud because I game in one place. The mod is amazing. It makes DST playable. Just wish the game was moving in a direction I agreed with though. I am still baffled the lag in DST is still such a problem even after all this time. That along with some other issues like World Generation not being updated.

before this gets confused It's important to make distinctions on the word "lag" here.

It's not performance lag, not graphic lag nor server load lag,

It's entirely about the input delay, the one and only.

For those less knowledgeable, dont starve server behavior becomes dramatically different once you have caves enabled, because it transforms the local environment into a split server relay, also known as shards and will cause a small delay on every action you take because the information gets handled and sent to the server. This system is inevitable when you play with other people but it's highly questionable if you never have any intention to and just play solo.

DSA fixes this so there's no input delay even if you have caves enabled as long as you play alone.

And yes it's pretty sad that Klei hasn't made their own official-supported method for this, getting outdone by a mod for so long is pretty embarassing in this regard.

The mod has other issues beyond what has been posted. I've heard of problems relating to nightmare/scrappy werepig.

I've never tried the mod because I've never experienced the lag mentioned, despite my computer being a gaming laptop from over 12 years ago. (It's the load times that get me. Hard drive probably doesn't have many years left.)

This has been fixed. Currently checking if greater worms work as intended but with how bad their vanilla spawn mechanic is, it's hard to tell.

This has been a problem for years and I just wished Klei could take a look at it. I'm sure I've seen more than 1 person saying they refunded the game on steam reviews due to an invisible input delay that made them uninterested in interacting with the game. And if I'm being honest, if Klei really cares about this game, they will also find a way to make us play above 60 frames per second. The animations are unbearably laggy and old.

The game has 10 years of existance and I understand that, but a plan to make the game better in these scenarios is necessary. They can either do it or give up trying to update the game and release dst2 already if the issue is too rooted in code. There is always a fix to a problem and they just gotta find a way to do that.

DST has a really large player base that keep the game alive. It has more players than most famous mmo's and gatchas out there which is insane to think about. The player base also comes back after every update to check the game out again, but nothing makes them stick. If anything, it has been declining unfortunately.

Klei knows that they get attention when a large idea is translated into an update. For them to not actively work on making the game objectively better is basically dumb.

My experience is that I can barely play the game because of the 60 fps lock. The game is slow and laggy at 60 fps. I wish they did at the very least an adaptation to fake 120 frames with nvidia, amd or intel technology support. The world is evolving and dst is getting behind.

*waves walking cane* Back in my days, we played 12 FPS Flash Browser Games and were happy with it!
