Lack of skins for some items...

  1. 1. Here are quite a few items in DST that have 0-2 skins...Maybe we need items for less popular items ?

    • Klei can make them both paid and free.

    • I think they should be paid.

    • I think they should create Twitch Drops, and free giveaways in honor of a holiday or event for unpopular items.

Well, I have a Deerclops that comes in the second winter and is not attracted to Hostile Flare. And it only provides 90% protection from rain.
This is a good item. Especially in winter and spring in caves.

I use it as a more convenient analogue of a tent. There are a million ways to restore hunger in the game. You can even sleep during the nightmare phase' to skip the annoying horrors and restore the stats. Much cooler with mods.

Rain coat provides 100% rain protection, just like eyebrella. But you can't use eyebrella in the moonstorm for the same purpose because you need storm protection in your head gear and it doesn't provide any.

"More convenient" is very subjective. To me the tent would be more convenient due to the accessibility of its materials and multiple uses compared to fur roll. But outside of playing Wormwood (see the conversation above with Evelo) I think food is superior than sleeping for health and sanity restoration. And even for Wormwood I'm not convinced, note how they mention they use a specific mod that allows to repair the fur roll with the sewing kit. Without it you really need to go out of your way to farm bunny puffs. Silk is a lot more abundant and easier to get material compared to bunny puffs if you want to sustainably farm materials to craft a sleeping structure/item. Oh, and you can make a siest lean-to a from silk as well, to sleep during the day time too (fur roll won't let you do it).

i use furrolls a lot, like i could easily say i use furroll more than all other sleep items combined. i like that it is good for giving trading out sanity when i over-collected food and need to eat it fast. i also turn winters feast on in most of the solo worlds i play and furroll is a fast cheap way to get lots of loot without having to leave base. furroll is also good in lights-out worlds when you need a minute to rally/collect yourself. it is a good emergency heat source in winter/spring since it warms you up as you sleep even when you are wet(which has saved me a few times while caving). most of all though the survivours look really cute napping~

Yes but what makes you choose fur roll over tent for the same purpose and how do you sustainably farm so many bunny puffs for rolls? The point about character animation is cute indeed and is the only one that makes sense to me, yet I still wouldn't go out of my way to farm bunny puffs only to see my character's cute napping animation.

Well I typically use a Tent at base, I bring a fur roll for in between encounter events such as when delving into the ruins. Batbat is useful for that too but I prefer to use those against bosses, Healing Poultice is very cheap and easy to acquire but much like the batbat, more useful in combat. I don't like farming jellybeans cause bee queen is just unfun, so I never use them in the first place. The main take away with the fur roll is it NEEDS to be repairable with a sewing kit. If it isn't then it is useless. as, you mentioned, the material to time cost is way too high.

For characters other than wormwood, it's okay i guess. though a singular Wobster Bisque is just better. So as a Wormwood main, using a mod that makes fur rolls repairable, I use them often. Outside of that scenario, yes practically useless.

Oh also if we are comparing healing rates, the Lean-to is the best Heal per hunger ratio. I use those the most in my bases though I tend to have Tents for Winter, Lean-to for every other season, and Fur Roll for Ruins.

Right, with the mod it does make sense then. Still, in the endgame it's 2 extra slots taking up inv space (roll and sewing kit) compared to the jellybeans that can be stored in the bearger bin. Bee queen: have you tried to fight it with shroom clouds perk combined with bramble armor? I haven't done it myself but I saw people having really easy time with her using this strat. Might be worth a try.

tent stays where you put it meaning you are discouraged from getting too far away from it(unless you wanna burn through resources putting down twenty) which is garbo if you play lights-out or if you do a lot of travelling(things i often do). it is also only 2 puffs for 3 uses which is not a problem at all. i recruit bunnymen so i am never lacking in puffs after that first summer down in caves. i also play wes and, occasionally, maxwell so again it is a good conversion of surplus food

but also it might help you to know i like roleplaying in games and often do things to be immersive or to bring my characters "comfort" so i am not focusing on minmaxing and am ok being suboptimal. sure if i was struggling and desperate to save resources i guess i could use a tent but then if i was hardscrabble i would avoid sleeping at all

i use a rain coat over eyebrella because i like using the eye mask, but i also use an extra backpack slot mod for my krampus sack :P i wish the rain coat had more skins because it is kind of ugly looking LOL, that shade of yellow matches with Nothing

I believe that spider nests should be indestructible.
And the fur sleeping bag should be changed in purpose.
You can make the crafting price 4 tails, but also increase the chance with bunny. And you can give it to him... 8 uses ? It sounds more fair.
In general, I don't like a lot of things falling out of mobs. With the exception of Slurper. 50% for crafting out of 6 is cool.

I don't think more than 2-3 tents are needed in the world. 1 on the surface and the second in ruins.

Unless you’re playing for max efficiency I think sleeping is kind of underrated? Fur roll and mats dont rot, it will heal you to max or whatever you want, it has some temperature control, you can click to save even in darkness (IIRC?). Some fights actually give you enough time to disengage and heal, and some dont. It’s not as universal as food (dont try to sleep vs fuelweaver) but I’ve slept my fair share.

Maybe 120, 180 and 240 ?

I’m the opposite, I never sleep to recover health or temp control. The only time I do is to get winter’s feast gifts. So much so that I completely forgot to inform my new friends playing that it’s a good way to heal. Ooops!

I think the nice thing about sleeping for new players is that it’s pretty predictable- like the drying rack, you put in an input and get an output (unlike the crockpot which requires some knowledge)

this is a really interesting take to me - i don't think that having more skins diminishes the value of them, i personally find it a ton of fun to see most people walking around with different cane skins because there's so many that they can more properly express themself with their choice. (i also like collecting them for that reason LOL)

i think it would be cool to see more skins for uncommon items, although i think there are a lot more skins for more used items that technically qualify for this poll that aren't being considered - like the enlightened crown, which was mentioned prior. i'm also hoping for some more animated skins, although i expect them to be very sparse considering the workload

If you wanted to properly express yourself when it comes to equippable items, I would suggest something like this mod; There's only so much an assortment of skins can lend you when it comes to self-expression.

I think it would be cool to have skins for most unpopular items as well but I don't want one just because they didn't have a skin for it. I want it to be something clever or fits with the game. Does it feel like too much of an ask for the skins to feel lore-accurate? I still buy the skins sometimes but I don't feel like they deliver on that aspect a lot of the time. Sometimes the only skins for unpopular items end up feeling too narrow.

Do unpopular items need skins?

For sure they need. Something you consider unpopular could be widely used by someone else. E.g. I love lazy explorer, and when I play Walter I love to wear feather hat.

However honestly I would prefer an option to turn off item/strctures skins by default for new players. When I was new to DST, it was very confusing because I didn't understand e.g. that skinned tent is a tent, and so on.
