Terser
Twins of Terror' loot, Shield of Terror, has practically lost it's niche after rift content got added due to having repairability as it's main advantage, and getting overshadowed by the also repairable but even better stat wise rift gear. So I think it would make sense to add planar twins with planar damage and planar entity protection that would be spawned by putting pure horror into terrarium, which would drop an upgraded version of shield of terror with planar damage (perhaps 20.5 planar in addition to the base 59.5, for 75 total?) and planar defense (10 like brightshade and void armor?). Ideally planar twins would also have new attacks. Thoughts? Ridley
Shield of Terror is great. I let Klaus kill the Twins, then I get a strong infinite melee option. Even with Rifts active, I sometimes carry the Shield of Terror around for killing chump enemies and saving on Rift item durability. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/168291-planar-twins/#findComment-1838476 Share on other sites
Dingle
I still use the shield, though mostly in that 15 day period where I'm slowly waiting on my brightshade husks. You might want to consider glass cutters instead, they deal more damage, are prototypable now and CC drops a ton of glass, supplying you for the entire 15 days period. I use both! Glass cutters for bosses, the shield for general use. The shield is nice because it also provides armor with the cc crown. Glass cutters do more damage, and you dont have to worry about a hard boss breaking it. hyoton123
Generally yes but I’d be pretty wary of another source of planar defense stacking. Even 5 is very generous; that puts non wigs at wig’s skilltree level, and it makes a big difference Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/168291-planar-twins/#findComment-1838502 Share on other sites

Veyred
i have been hoping for an upgrade to the shield( and possible mask) as well, but i think it shouldnt be a massive stat upgrade outside of maybe Hp, planar increase should be sth like 5planar defense and maybe 5-10 dmg we doesnt necessary need a new boss either maybe just feed it some pure horror or a new specific crockpot dish Oh and skins would be soooo nice for both of them. Hungry French
It's better to just make the rework twins so that they are like in Terraria + transfer the magnificent soundtrack from Terraria. Strengthening the shield? No. Rift gear is needed to fight Rift creatures. There's already a wrong balance between them, and it's not right to add another competitor here. ZeRoboButler
Wouldn't it just be better to use this opportunity to add more shield weapons to the game with different behaviors? It's seems like this would take less time to implement and be more appealing vs giving the twins a potential reskin and planar damage/defense. Cheggf
Planar gear makes literally every piece of equipment lose its niche. The solution isn't to spend the next 5 years adding planar versions of all of the currently existing equipment for no reason, the solution is to just remove that dumb mechanic where everything that isn't planar gear arbitrarily needs to suck like we're grinding in an RPG. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/168291-planar-twins/#findComment-1838675 Share on other sites

That is true, but realistically they aren't going to do that anytime soon (if ever at all) given they haven't done that 2 years after adding that and instead kept adding new content that uses the mechanic through these 2 years. And honestly, even with planar entity protection gone, rift gear would most likely still stay on top due to having highest dps even against non planar enemies + convenient repairability. Highest pre rift damage per hit is 72.25 morning star (conditional, needs rain) and 73.1 thule club (average, luck dependent, needs target to not move too far away after getting hit). Brightshade sword has 76.8 at all times, or even more against shadow enemies. Morning star requires doodads, nitre and horns to recraft (so you also probably need to set up a goat farm), thule club isn't recraftable and requires you to carry already crafted ones and later go to ruins for more. Brightshade sword requires 1 repair kit from brightshade husks that come on their own and pure brilliance that can be farmed once for like 15 mins, lasting hundreds of days of use. 2 hours ago, ZeRoboButler said: Wouldn't it just be better to use this opportunity to add more shield weapons to the game with different behaviors? The point is less "give us a planar shield" and more "add a planar version of this thing because it was seemingly meant to be late game convenience, but rift items took up late game convenience weapons niche". Even without the rift mechanic the brightshade sword would still be better than everything else. 13% more damage than a dark sword without the dark sword's sanity drain, or constant recrafting requirements, is so strong. So even without the additional mechanics it would be the best and it would conglomerate the gameplay in a really boring way where there's less choice. But there would still be some choice. It's one thing to deal 29% more damage than a ham bat, that's a big number but it's not crazy. Wigfrid with a ham bat would be comparable to Wilson with a brightshade sword. The difference between ham bat and brightshade sword is twice as big as the difference between ham bat and dark sword, but you could still use the ham bat even if it's a bit suboptimal. It's another thing entirely to deal 105% more damage. Ham bat is fuh-reaking throwing at that point. That's slightly bigger than the difference between a spear and a dark sword. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/168291-planar-twins/#findComment-1838678 Share on other sites

Going from 20 to 25 is a lot more impactful than going from 0 to 5 especially with affinity. Speaking of wig, giving wigfrid another planar damage reduction is going to break her by going to 30+45%. This is extremely basic math. Probably because set bonus cuts down 25% of planar dmg before reducing this dmg by amount of planar defense. Its armor perk. If you use void armor vs lunar enemy, that 5 planar def change will be as impactful as going from 0 to 5. 13 minutes ago, hyoton123 said: Speaking of wig, giving wigfrid another planar damage reduction is going to break her by going to 30+45%. I don’t care about using void. (EDIT: I misread your post so i deleted irrelevant stuff, but void armor is totally irrelevant here. I’m talking about why stacking planar damage reduction needs to be more careful than just handing it out freely. Also no one is using void armor with a neutral weapon unless it’s the body to null auras). Her damage reduction would be even more broken with 5 more planar defense. Would lunar burning even affect her at that point? Biggest problem here is slow down effect which makes hitting boss consistently difficult tho you could always resort to using explorer or spam mushy cakes. 5 more planar defense will just reduce dmg taken by 2.5 hp/sec (but you will lose maul and healing if we are still talking about shield with 5 planar defense). It’s the same problem with shadow gear, but you brought up armored bearger so I’m talking about lunar affinity, which coincides nicely with lunar burning. It’s better to zero it out for obvious reasons, and not to rely on the notoriously high maintenance maul. I’m done here.
