one of the comment made by the survival includes its FLIPPED state, so you might be on the point...

I'm late, but here's a recycled image of their loot table. Using commands you can "kill" them in-game to make them drop these things, but Ripple regens and pops out of their shell much like a turtle, as @Edible Coal said. :]
