At the moment, klei servers very often crash at the start of a game day (when the game's getting saved) if the world has many players and objects, e.g. due to having a large base. This is unfortunate, as every time a klei server shuts down, it also deletes all progress on the world for some reason.

Loss of progress becomes very unfortunate if the world has went on for long, resulting in sometimes tens of hours of cooperative play being lost. Which is why I have 2 suggestions for how this could be solved, either of which could be implemented:

1. Send save data to a separate server upon shutdown, and load it back once the server goes back up. As far as I am aware, loss of progress occurs due to klei servers using AWS gamelift, which can shutdown and wipe servers on demand (which is why there sometimes are "Shutting down in 2m" messages). The 2 minute period before shutdown could be used to send the save data to another, far cheaper server only used for storing data. DST save files tend to weigh far less than even 1 gb, so a 16 gb hard drive (do they even make such small ones anymore?) should be plenty for storing the data, even if multiple servers will get shut down at the same time. Then, after the server that got shut down goes back up, it could send a request to the cheap storage server for retrieving the data.

2. Add an option for less performance-intensive saving. At the moment saving causes an extraordinary spike in CPU usage of the server, which's what causes the server to sometimes shutdown from getting overloaded. This could be fixed by gathering save data from entities in batches, e.g. split the entities into 4 groups with 1 second of delay between saving each group or split them into 1000 by 1000 groups. This would reduce the spike in CPU usage, making the server far less likely to shutdown.

Klei servers are a great place to play in at the moment, other than the shutdowns, so it would be a shame if their player base would go away due to frequent progress wipes. The issue has became especially apparent and problematic now, after WARBOT, a boss that requires waiting for 2nd autumn to summon, has been added, with many servers crashing and getting their progress wiped before 2nd autumn.

Agreed. This is the sole reason I had to start hosting my own public dedicated server – because I knew Klei pubs (where I played 1000+ hours) would rarely reach the new/late game content that has been added recently.

To be honest, I'd be so happy to move back to the official pubs again, but right now it's just very frustrating if you want to play for the long run. You invest hours in a game that just gets wiped away in a second, and there's nothing we as players can do to prevent it from happening.

We really need better – more stable – Klei servers to reach the full potential of the newest and near-future game content.

Klei, Please do something. All the Klei Official Dedicated servers at least all the Europe, US East, US West are crashing consistently, I've checked myself. they can crash day 14, 15, 20, 30, 50, 65, doesn't matter, they crash at some point, happened to me in completely random days. Why would you not fix it Immediately, I simply don't get it, you hate your players so bad? This has been going on for too long

i've complained about this for 3 years, nothing will ever be done.

it's sad because the only servers people seem to play on is the klei servers, please klei listen to the community and invest in some better servers
