There's a lot being said here about the glass cutter changes, but I'd really like to advocate for the idea of making them prototypable, while it's being considered!

The ruins is an area full of enemies with high health, where the whole challenge of doing it early is managing both your inventory and health as resources. With that in mind, I think it would feel very great if taking the time to gather moon glass and prototype the glass cutter early was rewarded with the ability to craft a high damage weapon while in the ruins that does extra damage against shadows, especially those Lurking ones that are in the ruins now. This would also encourage visiting the grotto first, as you could mine the glass for your weapons while killing the Mush Gnomes for living logs to craft with.

Overall I think it would encourage players to get creative with routing their trips to the ruins early on, by rewarding them with an easier time if they engage with the lunar island or grotto first.

I'd say the only flaw with this idea is having to wait for the orb to spawn or needing to find the lunar island in order to learn the recipe. Other than that, I don't think prototyping the cutter isn't too bad of an idea. After all, dark swords and hambats can prototyped and are arguably stronger than the cutter, so where's the harm in learning the recipe?

i dont mind glass cutter being prototype-able. this weapon already so underused, even it made prototype-able, this weapon probably is still bad for clearing ruins. with 6 board and 36 shard for 6 glasscutter, instead of darksword with max 20 stack count, and unlimited source of nmfuel, and both of this resources used in ruins exclusive crafting, so more slot is reserved.

i still think the altar from lunar still able to prototype the weapon so u dont need to wait for the orb to spawn.

Except they only cost 1 log and 3 glass now, and they buffed the damage against shadows. That's more stackable than dark swords, so it would be completely unreasonable to allow them to be prototyped in this state.

Requiring at least the orb means you have to use another slot on the orb, but it's a bad multiplayer solution. I think they're going to have to revert the recipe.

I don't agree! If it's the perfect weapon for one task then it should stay niche to craft! Also they just showered the thing with buffs and an extremely inconsequential recipe!

When are we going to make ruins gear prototypable too?

At this rate you dont have to wait that long for it to happen.😂

Still ,glass cutters were extremely under used they're supposed to be a lunar counterpart for dark swords and they just don't holdup to that. Deserved buff in my opinion.

I assume you said this as a quip but I would genuinely appreciate if some items were prototypable, especially the walls and thulecite fragments to thulecite. Needing to walk all the way down to the station to recraft thulecite and walls is something I don't think people would miss if these were able to be made anywhere as opposed to just at the station. Bit more so-so for the other crafts, though having a way like the brain of thought to craft a limited amount of them anywhere would be pretty neat.

I think it would just be totally fine if you could prototype ruins items instead. If I hit the timing right and it's calm phase it literally takes me less than 5 minutes to get to the ruins on my beefalo, craft an inventory of items, and then go back home. If I hit the timing bad and it's the nightmare phase, that just means I have to stand there for a few extra minutes until it calms down, and then craft an inventory of items and go back home. I don't think those 5 minute trips every 12 hours of gameplay add anything to the experience at all. The hard part is your initial trip there as you first explore it and fight all the mobs, not the repeat trips where you just go in and craft stuff and leave.

if my math is math-ing it still under darksword. since u can get nm fuel in ruins pretty easy so two slot for 20 darksword vs 2 slot for 13 glass cutter (3x13=39)
