Is it a result of the full moon or your enlightenment that it spawns, if it's the latter - i'm probably ok with it. You'd have the similar issues if you were insane, with sanity monsters, so i'd just say it's down to the player to manage it post-wagstaff.

I think they should despawn quickly once you've gone below the threshold though

Can you elaborate a bit more on what caused it to spawn, is it just the lunacy or does your sanity level also affect it? It doesn't spawn until a certain point it seems. I can also see your crown only has 4 jewels and not 5 so it must be the moon storms causing it to appear in the first place.

I really dislike this enemy, on paper it seems it could have been fine but the aggro mechanics, damage and health values make it way too much of a downside for barely any upsides from the upgraded crown. It's not like sanity food doesn't exist and if I'm so far into the game I can activate this final boss, having a full stack of banana shakes in my polar bearger bin is a staple, not a luxury. Getting them is easy and they don't spoil for a long time, and they easily allow you to keep your sanity up at all times. Or, just play Wigfrid and don't ever worry about not being full sanity when in combat.

You could turn off the Moon Storm.

An (undocumented) change in the beta made it so glassed full moons will force you into enlightenment now, meaning its not possible to avoid this for those nights in particular.

I genuinely just think the gestalt is just severely bugged/wack right now; from getting hit by the AoE regardless of what state they are in to wanting to forcibly hunt a player down are huge issues compounded by how dangerous this mob is. The forced enlightenment filter doesn’t help (again, Klei, people shouldn’t need mods to combat filters on endgame items…).

It’s a shame because I actually really like the crown otherwise. Ignoring the sanity mechanic has a lot of versatility that you don’t notice initially and quickly becomes noticeable in day to day life. I can do practically whatever with the crown on and all of the sanity I lost will recover within like 2 days offscreen, and its a really fun glass cannon piece that I’ve enjoyed a lot in combat. It’s just kinda bogged down both by this gestalt constantly harassing you and the filter, which I hope they make proper changes for in the beta…

I think it's strange that it doesn't disappear after a few seconds when Lunacy is off. Especially because this actually worked to despawn them for a while IIRC, and then this was reverted.

Like, I don't think it should disappear immediately, but disappearing after 10s or so without Lunacy would be good enough IMO.

That's what i'm trying to figure out, do they spawn as a result of Lunacy or is it only after a threshold - if so, it would make sense for the player to manage this, there are ways of reducing sanity, literally with food.

They spawn from the same component that handles normal Gestalt spawns, meaning if you're in lunacy/enlightenment mode, and you're above 25% sanity/enlightenment for Gestalts to start spawning, an Inimical one will spawn if their spawn pool allows it.

Said spawn pool only goes up to 1, but there can be up to 3 total if people are wearing the upgraded crown (but those extra ones will only spawn for those players). Said spawn pool has a timer of one day, based on when the spawns were enabled (rather than going from one day to another), and it adds 1 to the spawn pool, but never goes above 1. So it's there to be a 1-day cooldown if the one spawn was exhausted (i.e. by killing the Inimical Gestalt).

Also there's one exception that prevents them from spawning. If the barrier in the lunar island arena is up, they can't spawn inside of it (they could still spawn right outside though).
