thinking about it more, missiles do not contribute anything to the fight's phase 1

1. you can set fires to items like jazzy did during his recent stream and use ranged constantly, as he swaps between burning and firing (sketchy as items on the ground are tiny if you dont drop a ton of items all around)

2. you can set up thermals as discussed,

phase 1 is comprised of reactionary dodges, positioning for drones and killing grounded drones ahead of time to not let them snowpile into trapping you (even then you can teleport out) and the 2 combining into a very engaging fight while not being extremely punishing

 

missiles does not work WITH the other attacks, execution starts and ends at spamming stars and spamming thermal for most people, it exists solely to draw out the fight (doesnt help that it is extremely key-and-lock, and for as long as it exists, it will always be balanced around thermal stones and star caller spam):

1. set fires and you just ignore drones completely,

2. thermals, you can just ignore the drones all together and hold f with melee

 

air drones never have multiple hit you at the same time and attack rarely, while the ground ones lock you close up to the boss for melee (the boss does nothing while missiles are firing at thermals) or lock you out of the boss's melee (the boss also does nothing while missiles are firing at burning items while you use ranged, this is assuming you dont already just spam thermals because that works regardless of strat which makes it stale to ''''''strategize'''''' around)
 
its why it sticks out like a sore thumb, and if they simply just locked onto the ground a bit before they fire down onto the ground (stop following you before it locks onto a spot) then you have to micro-manage your positioning, if you are melee you have to be careful where you step and constantly move while still getting hits in, or you can choose ranged and not have to micromanage as much. this is much more execution heavy than the 'spam thermal and hold f' ''''strategy''''' that the current iteration of missiles incite (that the fight clearly extremely decentivizes from the KB and extremely high damage.
 
i do love how phase 1 works without how the missiles currently act, an impossible to dodge without spamming teleport projectile (worse than pre-rework CK's freeze cuz at least THAT made the fight engaging)
