Though how would you control them? You can’t really control them well when chopping/mining atleast to my knowledge. So unless they row where you row which I’m starting to see as a pontential problem as by the time you change where you’re rowing, the merms may have crashed you into some rocks or something worse. And once you bring them on then most likely you’ll be unable to row safely when you need to like in dangerous waters. Plus they can act as obstacles on your boat. And it also depends on how many you bring, with more being worse.

Wurt already has a bunch of niches and quirks, including ones relating to drowning and being wet.

You'd have to also give it to pigs, at minimum.

disagree. Merms are aquatic creatures. Pigs are the farthest from that

It just makes sense. Give Wurt an actual niche of oceanfaring!

that is such a fun idea!!! love it!

They aren't being asked to swim. Mighty Wolfgang is actually better at seafaring stuff than Wurt, IIRC.

That Wolfgang is better cuz he is strong doesn't negate the fact that merms are aquatic by nature while pigs have no connection with water whatsoever in dst lore. If anthing Pigs are air/earth related.

Nah, they're fire aligned because of the torch setpiece. /s

It's nothing to do with "connections". They have hands and muscles.

Hamlet is where the pigs came from. It is high up connected to the wind and altitude and yes fire and earth as well. Pugna and Forge as they traveled to reach the constant.
I see what you are saying about "they have limbs" which by that definition, then any creature could row for us, like catcoons or carats but from a lore perspective, I disagree and that is ok. I don't wanna make this about pigmen because that is not the topic of OP.

Pigs, specifically, can use tools like axes to chop trees. They're capable of using oars. (Do bunnymen also use tools? IDK.)

Maxwell's shadow minions would also be capable, but he doesn't need more perks.

If you were envisioning Merms getting out and pushing, that requires special animations and the ability to get on/off the boat. Webber and Maxwell get around this by having their minions just walk on water.

Making pigs able to row would be problematic, because they aren't being controlled by a specific player. It also makes it impossible to add the much simpler fix of a spellcasting window for Wurt to control what her Merms are doing and not doing.

Wurt has a lot of quirks, but she still is kind of underpowered compared to other survivors.. Considering that a lot of these quirks relate to wetness and the things you can only obtain from the ocean, it also makes sense to enable more different playstyles. It also means she is a character for people who dislike the slowness of water travel, but (diverging from Woodie) still want to obtain things such as ocean fish and sea salt.
