Without any other hotter targets, the missile is bound to hit the character
And when there are hotter targets such as hot thermal stones, missiles no threat at all
This is extreme

Additionally, determining which item is hotter at different times can be very cumbersome, and there may be debates over whether certain items should be hotter

suggestion
Missiles can attack all targets, including all creatures, Houndius Shootius, Winona's Catapult, and more
Missiles can attack the area where the target is located and launch more missiles
But quickly leaving the locked area can avoid missiles

God forbid we get a new kinda fun mechanic added to the game >.>

It's like complaining that you can disable todastool's entire attack by simply spamming weather pains - it's a part of the strategy and a way to minimize damage dealt to you in the fight, I suppose that even if they add the way for missiles to reduce thermal stone's durability with each hit it is still going to be a quite expencive way of dealing with that attack and I assure you that over the next couple weeks people are going to come up with some way of negating it entirely - just like you can negate mushtrees spawning by spamming beaten walls all over the toadstool's arena

@AuRuSyou need to consider that the way thermals work is extremely janky and outdated

They do not work at distracting missiles for a solid ammount of the in game year

And having only a single viable strategy for dealing with them is extremely restrictive

I have to say that this update is indeed a huge exploration of Boos attack methods. The player has this designated ranged attack, so why can't BOOS have it?
If you want to talk about the downside, I think it's probably because the stun backswing after being attacked can be irritating. I think it would be better if we could change the damage of the homing missile to a combined high-damage missile. Ensures that players will not be infinitely attacked due to boos skills. Players have to move to dodge or fill in early.

Fun? In what world is spamming dwarf stars and crafting a dozen thermal stones fun? It's annoying, tedious, and makes the threat of the missiles nonexistent, which makes it less fun since you're not even engaging with the actual mechanic! I can vouch for it being an interesting mechanic, but a fun one? Not even close.

Also, weather pains aren't mandatory deal with Toad's sporecaps. Sure, other methods aren't as fast as using weather pains, but at least you have options instead of using a single strategy.

The heat seeking system in a dynamic way is very cool.  Just because the best way to do it has been established, doesn't mean there are other options players will figure out, like burning grass, twigs or rot.

Unfortunately, those methods aren't very effective. The drones put it out nearly instantly so it's pretty difficult to get a bunch of items on fire.

It's the best way because it's really the only method that works unless you're Willow.

I don't really want the missiles to be reduced to just, another attack you run around to avoid.

Maybe regular fires shouldn't be instantly extinguished, so you could construct and manage a campfire or something to redirect all the missiles, or, as somebody here mentioned, light a bunch of grass or logs on fire to avoid an entire volley.

(Also, it's currently not very clear that these are heat-seeking. Maybe Wagstaff can call out what attacks WARBOT has as it does them, as if he's advertising its features. i.e. "WARBOT also comes equipped with heat-seeking Thermalock Missiles!")

I think it would be more interesting where the missiles stay heat seeking but they are weak at seeking . And instead of it being a barrage attack it's a straight shot like the bishop. It's slower though.  So you can dodge it if you move sideways. But the missiles rotate around  to seek  their target so that means they are not just negated by one method and are still a threat after being dealt with. These heat source missiles have a self destruction timer  so the field doesn't get filled with them.  And when that time is expiring they act as a boom shroom

Yeah that was annoying they don't explode after a time. Had fun with turning speed mult up to 5, and they never exploded. Had enough of them following me to instantly kill bearger.

its not fun. its key-and-lock design, what kinda 'fun' dynamic is to be made out of the missiles? you get a heatsource, put thermals and you disable that attack. boring interaction and idk why klei thought something THIS key-and-lock should be added. its not even like larvae being killed by simply being frozen as you can just alternatively kill them instead of forcing the player to use ice staves/flingo. plus, the missiles are spammed its impossible to deal with even with range since im gonna hazard a guess klei will maybe add a health bar thats too tanky for their spammed nature if they even do keep the boring attack

yep. when you have no key for the stupid lock, you cant form many strats that are satisfying for you to employ and keep the fight engaging

In fact, heat-seeking missiles is very cool

But once the missile is locked, it will definitely hit, which is very frustrating

It would be more interesting if one could use Boomerang, Fire Staff to detonate missiles in advance, Ice Staff to delay missiles, or characters hiding behind tall walls to avoid missiles

tall walls to avoid missiles

would be interesting, makes use of ranged weapons more if this is the case (also bc of how tanky newer walls are it wouldnt be the worst idea, moonrock/dreadstone walls last basically forever)

The one problem with this attack is that you just can't dodge it without a heat source, and the player would have no idea that the missiles are heat seeking. Make it difficult to dodge, so that it rewards skill, but keep the heat seeking property so that it also rewards creativity/intelligence.
