Add skin system to DS ?

I understand that Klei doesn't have enough people to develop DS because of their many games. 
But what's the problem with adding a skin system to the DS?
It's a net benefit. Yes, you will not add new content, you will not enliven the game with new and beautiful skins that you can take from the DST. 
There would be a situation like with CS and TF2, where there are essentially no updates, but there are many skins to add.

Who would give up on skins?

The opinion that DS is a completed game and needs to be abandoned is not taken seriously, especially the opinion of those who refuse to believe that DST  is a multuplayer game.
Klei said themselves that DS would have updates if DS had brought in more money. 
So let's add at least a skin system.
Alone needs love. Yes, he's only 1... But he doesn't need as much love as he does for Together.

also there are actually DS workshop mods that backport DST things, including skins

Would anyone actually buy skins for a single player game? Why would they play it over DST?

It is more correct to say "DS development has been stopped at 1/10 of potencial".

And where to go? There are currently only 2 games in the Don't Starve universe. Don't Starve and Don't Starve Together.
DS is abandoned. DST is multiplayer and does not match what DS was good at. 
New Home is dead.
There are no good updates or changes planned in the DST. 
Don't Starve 2 or Remake/remastered is also not worth waiting for. 
All that remains is to wait for DST netflix mobile. Maybe they'll at least make a better game there.

DS is still played by players. Why should you play DS instead of DST? DLC's and solo balance and mechanics.

I would have bought it. I would also buy skins in DST if Klei deserved it, because there are no solo updates for DST.

DST is the current game, and DS is the old game. It’s like asking Minecraft to add stuff to the 1.7 version for some reason.

Minecraft is one game. If Minecraft  were Don't Starve, then we would have Minecraft Alone and Minecraft Together. 
And this does not negate the fact that DS is sold in stores.
