Ickers shouldn’t have souls

Recommended Posts

Resently I started a playing as a wortox. After I played for a while and activated shadow rifts I found ickers. I already had brightshade sword so I killed it but I was surprised to see what it dropped soul. Aren’t ickers arr just piles of trash merget with nightmare fuel goo. If they are, I thubk it would be more logical for them not to drop souls just as others soulless nightmare creatures.

The gosts drop souls because after they died, wheir soul became trapped in the constant, and got a new form from lunar side (As we know at full moon from all graves gost spawns. Defenetly power of the moon). So even though they lost their bodies body, they still have a soul.

We can say what all shadow alliened creatures consist or from something like hive-mind of Them, or shadows mixed with souls of living things. Regular nightmare enemies like crawling horror or terrorbeak don't drop souls because they consist only from Them. Right now where is a little mess between nightmare creatures which have a soul absorbed or contained in them and which don't.

Ancient fuelweaver and lil shadow creatures which he spawns drop souls because it's not only shadow hive-mid creature but also a mind trapped inside, indicating presence of the soul.

Right now I thing it's espesiallly strange what something like ickers or shadow mimics chest drop souls, but Shriek, Rasp and Jitters,(three nightmare creatures which apppear when the nighmare rift is actie don't. Shadow Maul (Axe) and Shadow Reaper (braid) can talk and Shadow Reaper has a quote, that it used to be a farmer, showing that at some point it was a regular creature, therefore with a soul, therefore it's trapped/captured inside the dark tatters which only whese three guys drop and Fused Shadeling (explosive shadows from the main Shadow Rift) don't. That's why I think where should be a clear difference between soulless nightmare creatures and ones with someones soul inside.

Kind of off topic, but a survivor can die, Wortox can then collect their soul, eat it, then revive them.

Seems that the survivors souls grow back.

What about random number of souls from 0 to 3 or 4?

I think souls might be something like a power of usual living creatures, but maybe not the mind of the creature, so players "soul power" can be retured by resuracting a player I belive. And giants have multiple souls becouse their as I "soul power" is higher than other living things.

I think I heard someone mention the devs talking about this a little on a stream. I think you have the lore accurate reason. I don't have any way to verify though.

I think may be right to say what soulds are not like essensial part of a living thing, it's consciousness but living power, just like nightmare fuel and lunar power it can be used defferently by wortox to teleport and sustain his stats and by willow to create flames. It's would also explain why lunar and shadow powers often posses living creature, to mix their power and soul power to get stronger

Souls is a weird metric, sometimes it works as "life essence" sometimes it works as "energy in a creature"

Like, shadow pieces don't drop souls, but using their heart on a pile of old bones it suddenly drops souls. And on top of that it drops several souls so its a measure of energy.

So for some reason, shadow pieces are measured using life essence, and fuel weaver is measured using energy.

Webber drops 2 because spider and boy, but WX drops none so Webber is twice as alive as WX.
