Wilsons tree goes exactly with how he is it's all about experiments. You are the scientist. And the game is your experiment.  I feel like adding these changes kind of go against that aspect of the character. It's because Wilson is the default he can't really go into specialties.  Such as medicine. Or mad science. What Wilson does is he is about discovery learning more about what exists in the world. Wilson is the best character to take advantage of the world's resources. He basically has the easiest access to the strongest items in the game before anyone else does. If that isn't innovative idk what is

You already know my main opinion on this skilltree and Wilson, i believe this skilltree just turns him into a different character, but some skills are just taking from other characters. Walter has medical skills, and Winona has Blueprint dupings skills (The Winona one is a balanced and non-toxic one because only she gains the recipe when she scans an item , whereas yours is op and not well designed because you can just dupe a blueprint for everyone in the server which makes Wilson almost mandatory)

You probably like his personality and lore, but keep trying to make him another character. Please keep him in the game as the pick for the default character with a default skilltree.

To be honest, if Wilson gain a endo torch, light skills are extended to lanterns or something relationed to beard i think he would be in a really cool place, not bloated neither too simple, endo torches would help with summer while beard with winter, nobody is dying to charlie after a week playing the game so light radius is a imense QoL for new players as well. He would truly be a seasoned survivor with this pack while retaining utility and QoL for early and mass ressources later on.

What?

I think many people say "he is a failed scientist" because always link science with engines, tools, etc. Also, just because you see an experiment exploding in his face. Well, doing science is really difficult, a lot of chemistry experiement gonna be fail.

The reason people say he is a failed scientist is because that is the entirety of his character. He is a failed scientist who says puns. Literally the entire reason he's even in the Constant in the first place is because he's a failed scientist, if he was actually good at it he wouldn't be here. He got kicked out of his college for being so bad at it that he destroyed a classroom, he continued to be bad at it and fail in his own house, and Maxwell tempted him with the prospect of finally for once not being bad at it. I'm wondering what the people who say he isn't a failed scientist are basing it on since every single aspect of the character is pointing towards him not being good at it. It's like you never interacted with anything about the character and just want to say he's a good scientist because you want him to feel happy or something.

Name one thing he invented that would actually work in real life.

Science works with whatever laws of physics are available. Real life is irrelevant.

I guess Wendy is a bad medium because she wouldn't be able to convince people ghosts exist?

And therefore he isn't bad at it anymore. QED

LED= Light-emitting Diode. With a medieveal spicy touch, in this case.

Well, that is your interpretation, and its ok. I did not say "he is a good scientist", he is just a scientist, curious and aeger of knowledge, maybe a lot that causing him fall into the Constant.

Yes, I'm happy :wilson_goodjob:

Hey guys!

Here my lately update on Wilson Skill Tree. I hope some Klei dev can find some nice ideas on this.

Enjoy it and keep fresh this topic.

Finally, biblically accurate Wilson. We did it, guys, we solved the skilltrees.

I think his tree can absolutely do with at least a once-over, it was the first of its kind, and it certainly does have some good skills, but contains a couple unhelpful/bloat skills.

I think some of the suggested changes might be a little much, but Wilson shouldn't be barred from cool perks. Wilson does enjoy discovery, and he should be able to discover things like how to stuff a ton more fireflies in a lantern or how to make it reflect more light. If he's forever doomed to carry the weight of "default character who deserves nothing" He should at least have minor buffs for everything default. Could make cheaper healing salves, or map the world with a slightly larger reveal radius, use his alchemy knowledge to make endothermic torches, there are tons of possibilities for Wilson to have had cool wacky scientist skills.

I'll get it out of the way, we've heard it forever, everyone's tired of it. Torch Toss bad. Yes, it CAN be useful, I already hear the niche uses being typed in retaliation. But a lantern is just as easy. Now, what could make torch skills as a whole better? just additional applications, it's genuinely so simple. Toss lanterns, larger radius lanterns, longer lasting. Now Wilson has a little progression to his skill.

Alchemy crafts, most are fine, gems are all good, meat to morsel is fine. Bones to teeth I have actually used a bit before. The rock, gold, and moonrock refinement are cool. I won't speak on twigs to log as I can see it useful for beginners, but rot to manure and beard hair to beefalo wool are pretty stinker. the rot has far more plant value than manure and Wilson already IS the beard hair guy, and beefalo wool is easy to amass.

Beard skills are alright, can't complain about them much as they're in character and helpful for new players, funny that the Wilsom rework joke post actually predicted Wilson's gross food beard though.

The affinity material refinement I do have some issues with though. Neither actually let Wilson obtain stronger items before anyone else like you say. In the most isolated, perfect RNG run, I still believe Wilson would only get access to rift gear like 10 minutes before other characters. Why you ask? because Wilson can't make any of the actual important stuff for the crafts, He still has to wait on bright husks and for void cloth like everyone else.

Wilson's tree can't be like Willow's or Walter's, I get that, but surely the face of DST deserves more than "torch 2, gem refiner, and rift material bulk buy hotline"

Saying failed scientist is kind of an oxymoron. Why is a failure? For not discovering something revolutionary?? Then a good chunk of the scientist are a failure

Dude he literally failed school and dropped out where he accomplished a total of zero things in his fake lab in the attic of a run-down house. I don't get why you guys want to hype up Wilson so much, like he's your friend or something.

I don't care about him, I'm just pointing out the non sense of saying "failure scientist" because, most of the time, people don't even get what science is

I think you don't know what science is if you're thinking a fully grown adult who's literally acting like what a kindergartener thinks science is isn't a failure.

This is reached in my country at the age of ~9. Science is done by failing while trying to answer questions. You may think that science is done by white haired guys yelling 'Eureka!' everytime they write something in their boards after observing some colourful liquids in test tubes

Wilson is a protoscientist since he is "using" the alchemy. I like that.

And, in real life, I'm a sicentist and failing is part of the research. We learn more from fails.

Actually, thinking on Viktor Frankenstein was the main idea to propose an "Alchemy Golem" with a motor heart in my Skill Tree.

I'm discussing the character, you're literally just here to insult people and tell them to go away.

His quotes just gave me the impression he's a vanilla guy that happens to be pursuing science. He mentions science about as much as any other person would with their own interests. Literally just some basic dude, that I'd probably see writing smug paragraphs to prove someone wrong. Few jokes that fall flat. Rudimentaty statements. Etc. I don't really think there is too much of any other conclusion to draw if you played him for long enough. It's just more fun to think of him as such instead of "normal guy".

Well, as normal as someone who makes wooden effigies made of meat and their facial hair, anyway.

Dude you just said a few messages ago that who play as him view it as some sort of bizzare obsession, if this isn't insulting idk what is it..

Hi to the OP and @MarcoReverie, I really like the suggestions you two did as Wilson's skill tree improvement. He really deserves better than just being turned into a swap character that transmutes items.

If I may add some critics, I guess the Alchemical/Shadow Golem may be a bit too strong (and that some people had compared it to Bernie). On the other hand, the Shadow Comrade seems suitable enough for him, maybe as a tier 2 shadow affinity perk.

As for the lunar affinity, I have no clue to be honest. I guess some lunar materials can be used for potions, but we already have Brightshade Bombs as an example of explosive items. Maybe he could make a time-based bomb? Some corroding items?

Heeey, haha, I aware this ideas are OP, but sounds good. I mean, Wilson can have better shadow and lunar skills, not this, but this ideas are my high expectations.

I'll settle for a shadow beard or something simple but fresh.

Regarding the time-based  bomb, it also sounds cool. I believe Wilson can enhance all features related with explosive.

Finally, of course Wilson deserves better skills. Please Klei :)
