I guess you misunderstood, it's not that he hates wes players, it's just that the author played a chn Internet meme :wilson_ecstatic:

While the initial world does generate some bottles, further bottle spawning is actually tied to the player. It's been a few years since I've researched it, so my numbers may be slightly off, but basically each player has a 1-2 day cooldown for bottle spawning. When it's off-cooldown, a bottle will spawn ~35 units away the next time you stay on a boat for a short while (I believe it periodically checks every 60 seconds).

Essentially, you will want to make sure to watch out for your bottle spawn instead of just exploring the world. And if any other players are available, you can place a boat next to base and ask them to stand there for a minute to spawn their bottle.

The code is in prefabs/flotsamgenerator.lua if you want to delve deeper into it.

Thank you very much for your suggestion! I will give it a try when I have the chance.

It's a joke if you read both Chinese and English.

Yes, the term "pressure teammate" is a meme related to fast food servers in China. However, I felt that a direct translation might lead to some misunderstandings, so I removed the meme in the translation and only kept the meaning I wanted to convey.

"Pressure teammates" mainly satirizes or teases some players who have unrealistic high expectations for their teammates' skills and act like they are always ready to teach others during the game. This phenomenon is particularly evident in the fast-food servers called "noob club". After a few visits, I basically never went there again.

还有一些梗比如“秋季战神”,主要是讽刺某些远古组的部分玩家只喜欢战斗爽的玩法,清完远古回到基地把远古装备往地上一放,然后忽略建家组与珍珠组的游戏成果,直接退服跑路。

There are also some memes like "Autumn War God," which mainly satirizes certain players in the Ruins Group who only enjoy the thrill of combat. They clear the ruins, return to the base, and drop their ruins gear on the ground. Then, they completely ignore the efforts of the Base Builder Group and the Pearl Group and simply leave the server.

The meme originally began to appear in competitive games, especially LoL, "王者荣耀”(another moba game), Csgo, Valorant.... DST players seldom use this meme. But I play them a lot.

Now that part sounds familiar to me. That's how it usually goes in public servers, a bunch of people drop off thulecite crowns and starcaller staffs and whatever else at base and then leave. Though that sort of behavior isn't exclusive to ruins rushers. I've also seen base builders go "well, I laid out this base, I did what I came here to do, goodbye". Without there being a common goal, there's no reason for people to stay once they've finished the part they enjoy.

On your list of characters: In my (very limited experience), the only base-builder character you’ve listed who remains “core” in that way in American community servers I've seen is Wormwood. Wickerbottom appears very rarely, and if she’s valued at all it’s mostly for the fish book you mentioned in the Pearl section. Maxwell is more common, but still not an incredibly popular pick. I would generally say that Wendy and Wurt often perform this role, since Wendy can very quickly gather huge amounts of food and silk, and Wurt has her merms for resource-gathering. For some reason she doesn’t seem to cause lag as often as Webber, possibly because she doesn’t need as many minions. These days, I also see Wendy players handing out night vision like how Woodie mains usually hand out wooden walking canes and helmets.

I don't think I'd enjoy regularly playing in a fast-food type server, since the expectation to play well would be higher (this is not to say that anyone who does enjoy playing in fast-food servers are bad or anything), but I do understand why people would want to play in a server with a known goal. It can get frustrating not really being able to coordinate with other players when everyone is doing their own things, because without a designated role I feel like I'm not making much of an impact. I guess that's why Forge and Gorge were so popular.

tryharding is literally the definition of optimizing the game to it's limits aka. these servers.

Tryhard is literally a derogatory term for anyone who plays a videogame better than you do, the implication being that they're only as good as they are because they sink an unhealthy amount of time and effort into the game, rather than simply being good as a result of enjoying the game; it implies that taking a game seriously in any way is a bad thing that should be looked down upon compared to simply playing a game “casually”

This in addition to the fact that bringing up “meta tryharding” is incredibly stupid in this context, because what exactly about playing a game quickly in a group is “meta tryharding”? Not everyone who plays a game quickly/speedruns is a skilled player, nor does being a skilled player mean you speedrun or play in servers like this; other players have literally mentioned that these servers are frequented by lesser skilled players, so your conflation of the two concepts is not only wrong but incredibly ignorant and bad faith

I obviously don't expect a person like you to do anything other than lump in anyone who doesn't play like you do in the same box, but just for your information, a group of 10 people killing celestial champion in 15-30 days is not even remotely close to “optimizing the game to its limits”, since a solo player can literally kill celestial champion by day 12, and an actual 6 stack of speedrunners can have celestial champion dead by day 8 (https://youtu.be/b9vW9msGSYM), so these clearly aren't speedrunners who play on these servers

Indeed, there are also times when we cannot overly blame players who leave midway, and we must also consider the realities of life. For instance, generally speaking, starting a fast food session at around ten or eleven in the morning, or four or five in the afternoon, is considered a "risky move" because it will conflict with lunch and dinner times, causing some players to have to leave early. The best time to start a session is right after finishing a meal to avoid such situations as much as possible.

Regarding Wickerbottom, I believe her greatest advantage in Fast Food servers is the book Applied Silviculture (to be honest, this book is so powerful that I think it wouldn't be unreasonable to make its cost similar to that of the Lunar Grimoire). When combined with Maxwell's Shadow Servant, it means that the entire team can easily "overflow" with grass, twigs, and wood. Especially in multiplayer servers, without Applied Silviculture, grass and twigs might even have to be competed for with teammates just to make do. Wickerbottom has several other advantages, including her ability to quickly craft shovels and backpacks to begin transplanting work on the first day, using The Everything Encyclopedia to skip the process of catching rabbits and directly craft the Shadow Manipulator, and her extensive synergy with certain teammates. All these factors make her highly suitable as the core of the base-building group. As for Silk, when I play Wickerbottom, I usually collect 11 spider silks at the start myself or have a teammate help me (1 for a boomerang, 4 for bird traps, and 6 for a tent). Silk does have a certain consumption rate, but compared to grass, twigs, and wood, its consumption is relatively low. The latency issue with Wurt mainly arises because some players like to build "Merm factories" to farm more than twenty Loyal Merm Guards, which can severely lag the server. I've also encountered many Woodies who distribute wooden walking canes at the start, which is another reason I really like this skill.

Actually, the division of labor in Fast Food servers that I described in the main post is an ideal situation. In reality, it's difficult to achieve this optimal division due to various factors such as server population limits, differences in each player's skill level and areas of expertise, and team communication. Moreover, not many Fast Food servers actually make it to the point of defeating the Celestial Champion. However, I personally don't insist on "having to defeat the Celestial Champion at all costs." I enjoy the process of coordinating with my teammates in Fast Food servers. Even if the other players are new to Fast Food, as long as they are willing to communicate amicably, I am happy to continue playing with them.

This is an interesting play style, thanks for sharing @Yifei_ - it sounds very fun!

I'm glad you find this way of playing interesting!

i often thought that this playstyle is more suitable for a close group with a proper communication channel like discord, much easier than typing in-game and coordinating with random people. really neat to know that randoms can join, form a team, and accomplish goals just as easily and effectively!

would love to have more of these servers in the Singapore realm and team-finding threads on the forum.

i think of myself as a tryhard and a sweat (self-deprecatingly) and i'm proud of it, even if i still suck as a tryhard. so i would like to play with other people who share the same interest.

In the fast-food-style server, communication is mainly achieved through typing in the chat box and some modules, and I think the effect is good. The main modules that facilitate communication are Global Positions (shared player map) on the server side and Status Announcement (quick declaration) on the local side. The latter module, in particular, is extremely convenient and is especially suitable for exchanging information with teammates in emergencies.

When playing with strangers, team coordination generally isn't as effective as playing with familiar friends, and you might even encounter some players with poor manners. However, it is also an opportunity to make new friends; a considerable portion of my Steam friends were added from these fast-food-style servers.

I visited the Klei official server in Singapore about a year ago, which is geographically the closest to China. However, the latency was still so high that I couldn't play properly. I'm afraid I can't offer much help in this regard, but I hope you can find suitable teammates and have a great time!

this "Fast Food" server is basically an official server filled with really good players

in EU klei officials there are often a group of sweats I play with that rush endgame by day 15

the actual practical advice is that as long you don't go to the caves or disconnect for 2 days, as soon as you get onto a boat and start rowing, a bottle will be guaranteed to spawn in a straight line from your trajectory within 60 seconds

example of me doing this (timestamp): https://youtu.be/UJghHN340Z8?t=1056

yo, that's sick

does this work only for the first player to do so? or is it replicable for multiple players?

EDIT: Read the wiki page. It is one spawn every 1-2 days per server. The check is done every 60 seconds, and it can also be triggered from land if you walk towards water. Cool! Didn't know.

pretty sure it's per player since going to the caves or relogging resets your timer, which wouldn't make sense if it was global, and I've seen multiple bottles spawn with other people

This sounds really cool! I love the name, it fits perfectly.

I’d love to join one of these someday, although I’m probably not nearly skilled enough for it, I’ve always been a more casual and slow paced player.

thank you for posting about this I really enjoyed learning about it!

I've seen some advanced pubbers relog and log back in very fast, multiple times per minute

Probably doing such farming strats

you know of ways to do that without literally quitting/rejoining?

I wasn't saying relogging makes the bottle spawn faster, it resets the timer i.e. you have to wait the full length again for your bottle to spawn

Tested this a bunch, works consistently. I can get 2 bottles, one on day 3, the other on day 5, as long as I don't go underground.

This is completely game changing for me. Thanks for the tip. I had known about what the wiki said, but it was really vague and misleading. Your system works great.

I have a Steam friend who is good at pearl missions. He often does this when completing fishing missions, which seems to be related to refreshing the fish schools. However, I'm not clear on the specifics, as I rarely participate in pearl group.
