[Poll] On Future Skill Tree Direction

I DREAMED OF A SCORCHED EARTH. A new shoot sprouted from the earth. It bloomed in the morning sun and whispered to me.

I expect that the last skill trees would be themed around Wicker, Maxwell, and Wanda. They are all old people, dabble in magic, and are already very well established characters. It makes the most sense that more niche ones like Webber, Warly, and WX-78 get it now.

Wolfgang and Wilson skill trees feel very barebones, and empty to me. They might as well not exist, and won't be changing anything at all.

Wormwood would appreciate very small tweaks to his "plant creation" branch. Although it wouldn't change much, if it doesn't receive any.

Hmmm. That makes no sense...

They need to be finished (the current rate is every other update), but it's also acceptable to delay them.

JoeW mentioned talks about rethinking how they're balanced, which would be a good reason for a possible delay.

Wilson needs his  own AOE and maybe some unique items , Wormwood needs to buff his Photosynthesis skill , rework the Friendly bees skill, those bees keep swarming around me, I can't sow seeds properly ! I hope Brambleshade can have the shackle effect Brightshade armor has,it's a combination of Brambleshade Husk and Brightshade armor after all.

Wait, people actually like Winona's skill tree? That abomination is nearly as atrocious as Wolfgang's skill tree. It's only saving grace are rhe alignment perks. But those two things have their own issues separate from everything else.

Content should be good. There is no point of just ignoring stuff released in a bad state to pass to the next content piece

Remember how bad was fishing for desert googles or ancient guardian? Is better to have less new content but have good content

Fair point. Normally my line of thought is for people with similar sentiment to vote no as I wanted to see just those two responses.

The problem now is that all the people desiring a neutral option can't revote and i may have to redo the poll later for posterity's sake

For what it's worth, I voted Yes for both because I like skill trees, so I don't mind more dev time being spent on skill trees, but I also like new content, so I wouldn't mind skill trees being delayed for the sake of other content.

Hence why I'm super neutral on the subject~

Interesting results. Definitely didn't expect some. While I appreciate the number of participants in this poll, it also shows how forums are relatively small, compared to game’s entire player base. I’d love to see these polls with much bigger participations and numbers, which could potentially shift results quite a bit. That being said, some things are inevitable. For instance, it's just impossible to keep everyone happy, myself included, as seen in the comments above, regarding some characters that according to the polls need the least revisions. It's also impossible to eliminate bias in these polls, something I too am guilty of.

One key issue I noticed during recent skill tree update is the tendency for some people to pick a side, religiously defend that side and sabotage the other side. Even within a single character’s fan base, there are factions that defend one affinity and target the other, creating an internal conflict that ultimately hurts everyone, guilty or justified, involved or not. These often lead to jealousy and resentment, which even spiral into negativity, both within a character fanbase and even within the whole community. Which is quite sad, but a sad reality that I still witness today.

Also, truth be told, not all skills from all trees need complete reworks; some need small changes, and only few would need a full on rework. Revisiting skill trees can be good, but it’s important to remember that if updates are purely regarding skill trees, not everyone will be excited about the characters that get worked on during an update, regardless of how cool their skill trees can be. This could leave some players out of content for a good while, which might drive them away from the game. Ideally, I’d say it's best to have skill tree updates also include some content updates, and go a tiny bit slower. That being said, I'd love to see all characters get their skill tree, so none of them feels incomplete at the very least. And after all that, I’d still love to see new characters added to DST, DLC characters like Wilba, which can potentially get a skill tree at the same time :adoration: or who knows, maybe even C-C-Charlie :distrust:

it means to say that they want development on the trees to continue, but wouldn't mind if the trees were delayed or sidelined temporarily in favor of new content

That's how i voted it anyway

That is exactly why I voted both Yes.

It should be very obvious Klei WILL finish all characters' skill trees, no matter you like it or not. Personally I really want them to complete ASAP because I feel like I am in handicapped to play those characters still in the waiting line, but I know it is also very important to complete the new harsh survival environment they want to create post-rift. So as long as they give out good content, I would not mind the release order they decided too much.

My biggest request for future skill trees is to not lock characters skills (especially affinity skills) to a single specific weapon that is not unique to that character (ie Wortox affinity skills)

I'd also prefer them to not be heavily reliant on farming consumables like Wendy's skill trees.

Skill trees are supposed to make characters more fun to play, not being busy work trying farm a new resource
