They could have added something magical, like wortox sucking the power of the souls to do stuff

wouldnt that also be soul related?

it comes off as a nerf.

it really isnt

It's hard to get the talents you want because of the tree design

its really not that hard, i can achieve everything id want from all the skills

and his affinity skills are both pure garbage

lunar affinity is bone armor without CD (i dont like its design but thats besides the point). while shadow is aoe/burst damage with reaper. theyre great in their own ways, you are genuinely disregarding all strengths of the affinities on purpose it seems

there are a fair amount of skills though particularly under nice and neutral that make me wonder why would I ever want that

genuinely confused why they decided to """buff""" the **** skills the way they did, what the actual hell were those last minute changes that changed nothing :|

These forums were absolutely slammed with Wendy outrage for months non stop. Aggression, outrage, boycots, craziness in multiple languages. And it seemed like despite the patch getting delayed for eons, the focus was almost always centered on Wendy.

I must add that Wendy Player is not solely responsible for this. I clarify that the voices of asking for Nerf Wendy and to reject suggest or buff, sometimes excessive and aggressive, or from personal hatred towards Wendy Player, or based on inaccurate information, had confused this development as much as Wendy Player.

they did not

i did here, they said it was intentional but they would look into changing it:

Thank you. Sure hope they are going to change it, as well as the twintailed heart spoilage mechanic maybe...

Yes but not as direct as "now souls move in this way" "souls now do something barely useful", etc

Extremely dissatisfied. I have no idea why the naughty or nice system was even added. Instead of being something fun and unique, it comes off as a nerf.

What nerf when you can either be neutral to mobs and get a lot of sanity or eat souls for free and take more time to overload?

Sure, eating souls in nice side drops more sanity but you can recover it easily and the healing nerf in the naughty side isnt really impactful when you will be carrying atleast 60 souls... i beat the game as naughty and didnt even notice the downside

If anything, i wish they make more skill trees with perks with downsides... one of the things that made dont starve interesting was the upside-downside in characters and items.

Lately we are only getting buffs to characters and items that are perfect. Even when they release a strong weapon as the maul people cry because it has a small downside that doesnt fit their playstyle like if every new thing should overshadow previous stuff and be free...

Something can be strong but garbage. Look see the 1st maul iteration, was op but had garbage design and wortox's lunar affinity is strong but has an awful design and is boring to use

I do like the shadow one tho

yea nowadays ppl love to just remove downsides from their character. wendy ppl the last beta was the exact reason why it took so long, and did everything they could to make abi unkillable for bosses

i already said i dont like its design lol

unrelated, but ppl that complain about his affinities being locked behind rifts, cry about it. hes already excellent early game, you can activate rift extremely early with him, the affinities add a lot of value to him post rift. not to mention you can just pick them for extra defense/offense for whatever you need with the 10% boost+inclination difference reduced by 1

Relatable, I'd be REALLY upset if they removed or reduced Walters downside to make him more "palatable" to play in general. The downsides keep the unique flavor of each character imo, for wortox its no exception

In a way they reduced Walter's by giving him a better ranged combat and with the option of buffing his hat

Introducing new ways to counter the downside is far better than just removing it in basekit i believe.

I actually enjoy the design of nice and naughty inclination that comes w penalties

Incredible concept, but the execution is a letdown.

For example, the covetous collector feels intentionally held back. In fact a lot of his skills feel this way, feels like you have a "meta" already set with solo/multiplayer respectively, as mentioned here already, which imo is a shame.

The knabsack is another example here - What do you mean Wortox's exclusive tool and weapon, made out of literal souls, does not have storage even for souls, and breaks after catching a stack of killer bees? And why can't he upgrade it to make it usable post rift? I can't explain, but it ruffles my brain real hard.

And also, I dont mean to offend in any way, but...

Many issues in the development of the skill tree were unaddressed.

This one issue alone... is definitely DEFINITELY not helping with people's general satisfaction with his tree. I am not exactly sure if there is going to be additional hotfixes on the way, they have been quiet on that front for quite a while I must say, throughout the development process and after the official release.

Alright, so I've been toying with Wortox and his skill tree for the last 3 days now, and after killing CC, opening rifts, and downing one of the mutant bosses, the possessed Varg, I've got to say that this skill tree... Is flipping INCREDIBLE!!! Now, unlike most people in this thread, I'm not an avid Wortox player. In fact, I rarely touched him before this update. One look at the food penalty was enough to turn me off from the character. I'm not sure why I decided to play him this time around, but I'm glad I did, because his skill tree ended being one of my favorites so far.

I loved the cheaper map teleports and double soul echo, saved a TON of time going from point A to point B, and was really helpful my low attention span. Saved me from having to walk back and get my stuff. The soul piercing and soul decoys were not only quite strong for farming bees, spiders, and even shadow monkeys, but I found incredibly fun and in-character for Wortox. I don't know if it'll ever top Abigail in terms of AoE damage, as you do need to time your soul hops correctly. I almost died to a shadow monkey train by teleporting too late...

The soul jars and knabsack were used quite a lot in my play-through pre-rifts. While pretty gimmicky, I had a blast using it, not just as a weapon, but as a tool, too. Being able to collect clusters of bugs and items from things such as trees, rocks, spiders, eggs from a bird, turf, and hound's teeth, saved me a good amount of time. My only real complaint is how odd it looks when fighting with it, as the layering just looks plain weird when your hitting enemies with it. If they give the thing a unique animation like Wanda's Alarming Clock, it'll make the feel more right.

And with lunar rifts up, I was able to use his lunar affinity skill and my god is it strong. You essentially get a lite version of bone armor, except without the need to wait for it's invincibility shield to go up. God, I just can't stop fawning over how cool these abilities are! My only worry about his entire tree is the fear of boredom kicking in. With all these strong abilities, extra soul storage, cheap map teleports, great AoE damage, and free invincibility, I worry these skills will make the game so trivial that I'll start up another world. Though, I guess you could say that with most of these character updates nowadays.

TL;DR: I've had a lot of fun with the tree, only worried about getting bored with so many strong skills.
