Gameplay/lore inconsistency

Recommended Posts

I just realize that clockworks, while they never dropped souls while playing as wortox, they do drop embers when playing willow.

I think this doesnt make much sense since both items are some kind of energy from living things according to the stream when willow refresh was launched

Is this intentional or simply a mistake?

embers = fire essence dropped from mobs that can burn
souls = soul dropped from living beings

But, iirc, jason said they are related

Shadows and CC, which is like a golem fueled by eldritch sentinel spacial energy, as said above, dont drop souls neither embers

According to its wiki page

"Ethereal Ember is not really an ember, it is set to be an immaterial manifestation of a burnt creature, so it gets appearance similar to Wortox's Soul."

Here is what they cited

Souls are also probably not souls. Abby drops a soul upon death but can be resummoned. Survivors drop ones but can revive. And bosses drop more than one.

They're probably similar to embers, an immaterial manifestation of, not a burnt creature but its life and actual soul. Hence soulless creatures still don't drop souls, while stronger creatures, or (not fully) fused ones, drop multiple.

CC doesn't drop souls cause he's a golem. And fuelweaver is an undead creature, so no life essence to get back ig, similar to the shadows.

And ones that didn't die burnt, and thus ones that can't burn, don't drop embers. Also probably why some creature drop more embers than souls, they're bigger so more of them is burnt. Resulting in more manifestations of burning.

It's probably not that thought through, but it makes for fun gameplay mechanics so who cares.
