Please consider fixing this interaction with the bottle spawning mechanics

Recommended Posts

Bottles with messages spawn naturally in two ways; some bottles will be automatically placed around land on world generation and can be obtained on day 1 (the locations are always the same even when regenerating the same world), and the second way bottles can spawn is with a timer that each player has.

When the player spawns into the world, a random timer between 8 to 16 minutes will begin, and once this timer is over, a bottle will attempt to spawn off-screen around the player (if the player is on a moving boat, the bottle will attempt to spawn in the direction the boat is currently moving in; if the player is on a stationary boat, the bottle spawns in a random direction at the same distance away). If the player is not on a boat when the timer ends, the game will attempt to place the bottle again after 60 seconds, and this keeps retrying indefinitely until a bottle can finally spawn and the 8-16 minute timer begins again.

This mechanic seems perfect to ensure that all players can obtain bottles easily without having to sail around the world for days, which is great for people that want to prioritize Pearl in the early days (since you will always be guaranteed to get a bottle even if you don't find one of the naturally spawning ones), and seems particularly awesome for some of the new skill tree characters like Wortox. The issue here is that, presumably unintentionally, any loading screen will cause the game to forget about the player's timer and reset it; most notably, simply going to the caves causes the game to reset the 8-16 minute timer. This doesn't seem like a big issue, but if you're a player who switches between shards frequently then it's possible for your bottle timer to never reach 0 unless you intentionally restrain yourself from going to the caves for up to 2 days.

This isn't the biggest issue in the world, but with Wortox's skill tree encouraging players to stock up on bottles early on, I think this interaction sucks because simply going down to the caves to get light bulbs for a lantern sets you back 1 to 2 days on your next bottle spawn, which creates an uncomfortable gameplay loop where for some reason you have to avoid going down into the caves or relogging at all costs because otherwise you can't get a bottle. I'm not sure if this belongs in the bug report section since it's less of a bug and more of a poorly implemented interaction, but since the developers have been going out of their way to make ocean exploration more painless in recent patches I think changing this timer so that it is remembered between loading screens would be good for the game. This would also make regularly generating sunken chests much more consistent and make them a more dependable resource since the player will always be able to rely on a bottle spawning in the vicinity after not having been on a boat for a couple days.

I'm also a big supporter of easier get bottle, but for Wortox, I think it would be good new insights that you to give something to a friendly mob to get items (bottles come from Marotter) for Nice, and that include giving you a chance of getting bottles when stealing from Marotter Den for Naughty.
